Default Epoxy Coatings

Has anyone used any of the DIY epoxy floor coatings in their garage?

If so: what brands, 1 or 2 part kits, how were the results and would you use product again. Also, has anybody used a "professional" service to apply these? If so: who, how were the results and approx $ per square foot.

I'm looking at doing my floors, but I have about 900 square feet between the two garages, so I'm probably most interested in the DIY products. But if the "professional" service is "reasonable" I would consider...

Any thoughts and photos would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dean

No, but after you practiced on yours, how about coming over to my house and showing me what you learned?

I did mine, but it wasn't epoxy and it didn't last. My tires were so HOT that the coating peeled off underneath them. I couldn't imagine why?

Sorry about your experience - Yeah, I've heard if it ain't epoxy or acrylic with a really good acid prep (some even grind the floor), it just doesn't last. I want to try the DIY product, because I don't want to spend $4-5K on the two floors, but I don't want to hose it up either - so I want a good product...

I'll post pictures when it eventually gets done.

Thanks, Dean

I actually used acid to prep it. My dad owns a High Pressure washing company and took care of the prep, but the Home Depot brand just wasn't willing.

My neighbor just tiled(adhesive backing) his in a checkerboard pattern and it came out looking real nice. Since he doesn't park his cars in the garage, it might work out just fine.

Good luck.

Let me know what you find out. I too looked at the Home Depot stuff.

I have heard from several users that this is the best stuff and not difficult to apply. The web site goes through prep and application step by step. They also demonstrate an installation sometimes on Speed Channel's My Classic Car. And it's warranted for life..

Jim, thanks! UcoatIt is one of the products I found on the internet. It's good to hear good things about it...may half to consider it.

Joe, was the Home Depot a 2 part epoxy or just an enamle?

While looking for DIY products, I came accross a 2 part epoxy kit from Sherwin Williams that they said was great. But then again, they are trying to push the product. The thing I did like was they said the can tint it any color. I might try it on my small garage to see if it works okay and if it is durable. If it doesn't, then I'll use a product like U-coat-It for the other garage...

I'm thinking next weekend might be a good time to try. I'll keep you posted...

Thanks, Dean
