Houston S2K Experts -- Help!!
I'm pulling the trigger on a used S2000! The only problem is that the one I want is in Houston...and I'm in California! I've done a Carfax scan on the car, it passed all of the checks. I have lots of photos, looks good. The price is good ($23,750), and they are sharing the shipping to CA with me, my part comes to ~$375. The car is a 2000 Silverstone/black with ~11,000 miles. It looks all stock, the additions I can see are the factory front/rear/side aero pieces, 6 disc CD in trunk, and the trunk net. It doesn't appear to have the cover for when the top is down.
The dealer said it probably needs some new rear tires soon, which would make sense at that mileage from what I've read here on the forum. From the numerous photos, the only ding I can spot is a small one on the right rear wheelwell, the dealer confirmed that it was very small. The car was originally sold in 6/2000 in Virginia, then in 6/2001 in Ohio, then in 9/2001 in Illinois.
The big thing I'm worried about is crash damage, I don't really want to get involved with a car that has been bent. The photos I've seen are good, but they're not as revealing as seeing it in person. The overall condition of the car looks great, but a visual confirmation would make me feel good.
Do any of you S2000 owners have time to check it out at the dealership? If so maybe we can work out some kind of reward for your time. I plan on transferring the funds to the dealership on Monday (3/24/03) so the "inspection" would need to happen over the weekend. It's at a company call Nxcess Motorcars at 5722 Southwest Fwy in Houston. Their number is 713 268 1813. I've asked them about an inspection, they say it's OK to do one.
Let me know if you can help me out... thanks!

That seems kind of high for a Model Year 2000 S2000. I would consider looking around more than buying a used MY2000 S2000 for over 20, regardless of the mileage.
The dealership is right next to where I work and real close to where we usually meet up on Saturday nights. Unfortunately, my S2000 is in the shop and won't be headed up that way until Monday.

I guess I didn't read what I was typing, I should have said, If you need ME to take a look let me know. So far no one has stepped to the plate except Kewlwhip. I'm not sure if Kewlwhip is going to do it even though he said he would.
Is that enough clarification Wes? Please get off my nutz. Thx

Thanks everyone, especially KewlWhip if you can swing by and take a look.
Regarding the price, it seems like a pretty good deal from what I have seen. There isn't much under that price on any of the nationwide car searches on www.kbb.com and eBay. Most of the eBay cars have reserves around 25k and up, I've yet to see anything sold for under 20k. And some of the cheapest cars look questionable.
The car I'm getting has about $1500 worth of factory add-ons, an '03 with all of that stuff would cost me about 10k more. Here in SoCal I could probably sell the car in a year for about the same price as I paid for it, then get an '04 S2200 :-)
Thanks for all of the responses.

S2ka,
The reason I said that this car cost too much is because everyone I know seems to be getting a dealer trade-in value close to $16k. Your taking at least a 5k loss right off the bat. The other thing is that the S2000 is rumoured to be redesigned next year, which will drop the value of the 1st gen S2000's even more. I'm just trying to maximize your dollar. I know I've seen better deals on the board, but that was back in the beginning of last winter.
Have you been 'lurking' on the board long, or are you really 5 days old. Search through the old For Sale posts and see if that car really worth it.
Either way, I'm sure we'll look at this car for you and get you the info you need. I can take a look at it for you on Monday during my lunch break to see if I notice anything.
