Students said the accident highlights a problem they have seen for a long time.

"The crosswalks here are ridiculous. I'm a student and it's awful trying to cross the streets with cars flying by 45 mph downtown," an unidentified student said.

"It's kind of dangerous because the cars just come right here and they don't stop because they don't see the students walking right here," student Tia Justice said.

i walk there alll the in time when i was at UHD and no cross walks were dangerous.. if you wait for the light then you'll be ok..some people take the turn blindly but thats why you wait still after it turns red.. the only thing that i get scared of when I walk there is the metros
