Default Need opinion

I was talking to Nel after bowling and I ran the idea by him of making my car flat white and flat black hardtop using plastidip. He said "do it". I know the first thought's are don't be a cheap ass ricer. Of course, I'm considering this route vs. vinyl wrap because it's a small fraction of the cost of wrapping, and I still have the option of reverting it back to OEM color. This past sunday i tried doing the HT first to see how it comes out and I'm pretty sure I did a bad job because it came out a very rough texture finish rather than a satin smooth finish. Voice your thoughts.

I think Rdragon was banned. He tried to rip off a few people, or something like that. I would say not to do it, it will never look as good as you will want it to. What if you decide you don't like it, and for some reason you can't get it off?

not getting it off would suck pretty bad. But I tested it on the HT and it peeled off in one piece very easily.

I say, do it. I've had a few friends plastidip portions of their bumper/emblems and sure enough it's very easy to remove. Just watch seals and stuff.

Sounds ghetto, but the final product could be awesome!

You can do it, but you have to spray it properly to get even coatings. No matter what though, you will have that rubbering coating feel. Platidip is meant to create grippy handles on tools, so it will always have that rough rubbery texture.

I wouldn't recommend plasti dipping your whole car. Not only will the surface texture look funky on an entire car, but if you don't coat it thick enough, you'll have a hard time taking it off. Plus, you'll probably get overspray into areas that you didn't meant to paint. However I've seen pics of cars plasti dipped and they look pretty good. Not sure if it looks as good in person, as I've never seen one.

Vinyl wrap can look awesome, but it's very tricky to apply. Paying someone to do it will be costly and probably not worth it.

But if you decide to do it, here is a diy video:

That's actually the video I watched that gave me the idea. That video and the one where he does an M3 flat white. In the video the texture looks pretty smooth, when I did the rattle can on the HT it was almost like a rubber carpet.

Maybe spraying with a spray gun, like in the video, instead of the rattle can will give it that smooth look. However, the few bumpers I've seen painted with plasti dip in person didn't look that great.
I would also think that cleaning it would be a pain since the texture is so sticky. I only have an emblem plasti dipped and when I clean it with a rag, all the fibers stick to it.

The guy does make it look easy though, lol. Try it out and let us know how it works out.
