Default Top Liner.......

my wife works at BMW North, last night she came home in a Z4.

didn't show any interest in it which irked her.

after a little coaxing i finally got off the couch after 10 pm
to check it out

was mildly surprised. the exterior kinda has to grow on you
but i kind of find it appealing, with the long hood and short tail.
its best qualities aren't the sheet metal
the interior is a lot more comfortable than the S,
power/heated seats really do wonders. tilt wheel 'Drool',
no ackward frame braces to fight with for leg room.
door panels that were cut to create lots of room to move around

to make it short, what i really liked about the car
was the lack of WIND NOISE from the top. On the freeway
there was only tire noise, which really surprised the hell
out of me, very quiet indeed. you can actually converse with
the passenger. i was investingating the top, it has no latches
and a liner. the liner must work wonders to eliminate all the
wind noise.

no im not trading my car for a z4, as much as my wife
would love it, since she cant get too comfortable in the S for
some reason.

the big question is, has anyone lined their top or has had
any experience with a shop that can line the top?
does it cut down on the road noise? the wind noise?
the quietness at speed was very nice indeed
would like to duplicate that in the S

and no i dont want a hardtop

any shop recommendations or any input on where to
get a liner would be greatly appreciated

did a little search all i found was liners for 00 01 my's
but they were as old as dirt

you might want to upgrade your catchers to the 02/03 hardtop catchers. It made a huge difference in my 01

I have a inner liner on my softtop, but it only collects dust behind my head.

i'm pretty sure that's the only one available.

yeah, but it helps a lot if the top is up, right?

gegege, i had this one too, and it was awesome. since it doesn't fit MY2002+, i'd still buy one, and try it to see if i could make it fit. it would probably be a lot cheaper than getting it done yourself.

john my car is an 03

joe, does the liner surpress road noise?
more importantly, where did you acquire it?

the car doesn't have 'wind noise' per say,
i gues it qualifies as road noise.

after driving the z4 the S in very loud in comparison
i think that a lot of it has to do with the liner.

my brother has an SS convertible, it has a liner that
muzzles road noise well also

maybe i should call an upholstery shop

thanks for the replies gents

they have a dyno, he's pushing 390 to the wheels in his m3

they had a dyno day 2 saturdays ago lots of
lets say 'nice' cars to say the least
they dyno'd from noon till well after 6 pm

if you or any of your m friends need any assistance

Is your bro-in-law Alain? I know him personally.
And I know Joel too and his monster M3.
I was there.

By the way, my M coupe was totaled.

I was there from 9am until about 2pm.

I am considering getting another S if I can get one for the right price. The only way I would get this S is if it had at least a supercharger. Know of any?
But most likely I am going to get an S54 M coupe (315hp). Mine was an S52 (240hp).

Your sister knows me but I never knew her name so whenever I went into the shop, she would say hi along with my name and I would just reply "hi". What is her name?
