Apex event at MSR (3.1 CCW) on Oct. 18th

Another spot opened up in the intermediate group for this event, so I was able to squeeze in! I've never run the 3.1 before, or any part in the CCW direction, so I'm really looking forward to this! I have a set of XP10's on the way, and plenty of tread left on my Star Specs. WHOOP!

Who else is attending?

BTW, the lady at Apex said that she might open up more spots if there's interest.

pmptx 10-06-2010 08:46 AM

I am .

Dave
John
Zo
should all be there.

I look forward to meeting you.

Jspd 10-06-2010 08:55 AM

PilotSi should be there as well, and I will be there in spirit LOL

PilotSi

and now Gernby

6 S2000s so far, it's going to be a blast!! I hope my bumper sticking out a little won't interfere at high speeds!!

Can't friggin wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gernby 10-06-2010 09:09 AM

Sweet! Does anyone have a decent video of the 3.1 CCW?

BTW, I just downloaded the update for Harry's laptimer on my iPhone, and am stoked that it now has a plug-in for video capture!! It doesn't overlay lap times or accellerometer data on the video (yet), but it will be nice to be able to get HD video while also capturing lap times.

Gernby 10-06-2010 09:10 AM

Are we all in the intermediate group?

S2Dave 10-06-2010 10:01 AM

When I talked with Claire she said they will be breaking it down differently for this event. Something about grouping similar cars together. Dont know how well that is going to work out, but we'll see.

Elistan 10-06-2010 10:08 AM

Here's a lap in an RX-8. It starts just before the final turning leading onto the start/finish straight.

Good to see you will be able to join. It will be nice to have a few of us out there.

altiain 10-06-2010 12:13 PM

Hmm. I didn't think I would be able to make this event, but maybe...

Do eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!

Oh and most of us are in the same group except for a couple of guys who like to run "flat out" and wanted to be in the "fastest" run group!

Edit:

00MUGENS2 10-06-2010 01:01 PM

I didnt ask....I was put there.

And Im not going to turn it down when its $25 cheaper every event when you are advanced. :D

i'll be there in spirit too! I'll bring my dvd of Fast and the Furious to watch at work soo i can have the same excitement if i were there....

Miatamoto 10-06-2010 04:12 PM

I'll see you kids there!

Gernby 10-06-2010 04:45 PM

So what is the format of this event? Will there be instructors, or is everyone solo'ed? How many sessions will there be, and how long will they be?

00MUGENS2 10-06-2010 05:08 PM

There will be NO instructors. I would guess that everyone will get 6 20-25 min sessiond.

But we wont know till we get there. Like Dave was sayin, they arnt going to seperate it by advanced or intermediate......It will be by car. So most likely all of us S2Ks will be together.

Im guessing they're going to split it into 4 groups. And there is about 50 people total which makes 12-13 per group. Half of our group will be S2Ks.

ken o 10-06-2010 05:37 PM

I'm in.

rioyellows2k 10-06-2010 06:44 PM

jk, take my spot. Dave called an opened a spot for me but I can't make it since I have to work.

Gernby 10-07-2010 06:59 AM

It would be nice if all the S2000's wind up in the same run group. That way we won't have to bench race after the event to prove who has the bigger junk!

BTW, Thanks for sharing the video, Ken! The track looks nothing like I remember it.

Even if I am the slowest out there on paper, you still can't prove it!!
So I am going to bench race and I have come up with some new handy excuses too, can't wait to use them! LMAO!

ken o 10-07-2010 08:15 AM

The one tricky spot is at :24 second into my video video. The transition from 1.7 to 1.3. Don't do this (jump to 5:19)

I think they could add a few other's from Zo.

"My vagina was hurting"
"I'm retaining a lot of water right now"
... etc.

pmptx 10-07-2010 08:24 AM

I think ZO will use- "I am still recovering from taking one in the back end."

LMB2000 10-07-2010 08:42 AM

Or maybe "Do you ever have that "not so fresh feeling?"

ken o 10-07-2010 10:05 AM

Dang Zo, no respect for your talents.

S2k_MoZo 10-07-2010 11:24 AM

So check it out, it's like this: If I lose, winner takes my car clean and clear. But if I win, I take the cash, *and* I take the respect!

Finialy...

Now I will have a spare S2K to use as a daily. Can you fix that bumper before I take delivery ?? :D

S2k_MoZo 10-07-2010 11:53 AM

Don't forget we'll go through Juice04's (Johnny Tran) hometown and he will set the car on fire so it doesn't matter if I fix the bumper or not :p

Plus...everything aside...you don't remember what happened at mineral wells? With me on dead Direzzas? You want me to email you a link of results/times? LOL

00MUGENS2 10-07-2010 12:06 PM

Dont count on gettin lucky twice :)..........You know im better at the track...........Dave does.

Yeah Zo, he is better at the track. He can just about hang with me when my suspension is set full soft instead of the usual 2-3 seconds behind at autocross.

You asked for it. ;)

Reminds me of that M3 that I was messing with at MSR last time. It's so much fun to get behind somebody and mess their life, I mean line up! LOL

Downtown roads + dead Direzzas = fun!! I can break tires lose in 1st, 2nd and even 3rd gear! Car slides on turns here like I am on ice...so much fun!!

altiain 10-08-2010 05:32 AM

Ok, I'm in. Hopefully there will still be room to pass with all these giant egos on track. ;)

LOL, took the words right out of my mouth!

Still, if you try to pass me, I will put you in the wall son!

See if you can pass the 3400 lb. Kraut Wagen. :lalala:

S2k_MoZo 10-08-2010 08:37 AM

Let the sh*t talk begin!!

We should do a BWW meet next week so we can talk smack...all we want...till we want...and then we'll see who backs up their sh*t....we all know that ain't me! LOL

samsam5886 10-08-2010 09:11 AM

I can't make it to this event since it's on a Monday. I will be going there in December. Will any other S2Ks be going in December?

I hope it doesn't rain like it's raining today next Monday :(

altiain 10-11-2010 05:02 AM

Weather.com sez 80 degrees and sunny next Monday.

Of course, weathermen suck. What other job can you be wrong 95% of the time and not get fired? Besides Congress, that is. :D

S2k_MoZo 10-12-2010 04:18 AM

Now it says mostly sunny!!

Showers moved from Tuesday to Wednesday, which is good.
Showers need to stay as far as possible from that Monday!!!

00MUGENS2 10-12-2010 07:28 PM

:banghead: So much to do before the big day :yikes:

S2k_MoZo 10-13-2010 04:02 AM

I know...I still have to put tires on the other set of wheels, change brake fluid, change brakes, change tranny fluid....so much to do and no time at all. I hate driving to downtown for work everyday, you lose 90% of your energy and your day driving up and down!! aargghh!!

I need an alignment bad!! Scottieeee!!!

S2k_MoZo 10-13-2010 04:09 AM

On top of that, I need to tighten the top hats of the rear coilovers!!!

I really hope I can get it all done before Monday!!!!!

Gernby 10-13-2010 06:52 AM

Thanks to John, my alignment is straight again, and thanks to my new XP10's, my front rotors are starting to clean up! Now I just need to replace my tranny oil and flush my brake lines.

S2k_MoZo 10-13-2010 09:42 AM

You only changed your fronts? What are you running in rear?

How are you going to flush your brake fluid? I am going to try gravity bleed :)

Gernby 10-13-2010 10:30 AM

I am just going to use stock pads in the rear. They held up fine at ECR, so I don't see any reason to think they won't do at least as well at MSR.

If I had remembered to order Earl's solo bleeders, I would just do a 1-man flush, but since I forgot, I'll have to get the wife to push the pedal.

S2k_MoZo 10-13-2010 12:19 PM

Try gravity bleed...I am going to try it and see how that works this time...

pmptx 10-13-2010 12:28 PM

LMK if it works well. If it gets the process down to one person and a better bleed, then fantastic.

S2k_MoZo 10-13-2010 12:30 PM

I bottle of ATE Super Blue is surely enough to do the entire car. You'll use 3/4 -7/8 of the container.

By trial, I've found the best sequence is RF, LF, LR, RR.

Empty the master with a turkey baster.

Crack the right front bleeder, the level will start to drop. Get it a little lower, but not enough to suck air.

Fill the master to the very top with ATE blue.

Start with the right front bleeder. Attach a clear hose, and let it gravity bleed till it turns blue.

Repeat for the remaining wheels.

You'll have such a great brake pedal from the gravity bleed it will feel like the pedal is welded to the car smile.gif

I have used this procedure on countless s2ks.

My brand new OEM rear pad completely disintegrated at MSR on my 1st session...I wouldn't trust OEM, though I suspect part of that might have been build quality.

Still, it was enough for me to never go back to OEM.

Gernby 10-13-2010 02:13 PM

MOTHER FUDGE!

As I was pulling out of my parking spot to go home a few minutes ago, I lightly touched the brake pedal and heard a POP, then I would hear another quieter pop every few feet. I got out to look around, and after a couple minutes, I saw that one of my front brake rotors has a 1/4" crack going through it! Obviously I'll need to replace it, but I suspect the crack may have damaged my brand new XP10s.
