Arctic front
I drove from Odess to Arlington that day. Absolute hell. Conditions were so much worse than they were in DFW. I probably saw 30 wrecks along the way. Half were 18 wheelers. Those guys are absolutely f-ing crazy. We were literally driving on ice from about 30 miles east of Odessa up to the outskirts of Fort Worth and all of these semis were just flying by us. At one point, a semi started to jackknife about 60 feet behind my car. The guy managed to catch the rear-end somehow and then proceeded to pass us immediately after.
There's something nasty looking about a semi broken in half at the hitch or flipped upside down at the bottom of a hill and I got plenty of it on my 12 hour
ride from Odessa.

I'll bet a lot of the semis thought "HAH! I've been driving trucks for a gazillion years up north - I KNOW how to drive in it! Eat my road grit Texans!" without realizing that it really is different when it ices up here VS snow in Minnesota
The freezing/melting/freezing thing we always get here creates a uniquely slick surface that really cold places don't encounter.
