I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier, try Grainger Industrial supply.

Also check Turner Hardware in Farmer's Branch. They have tons of "Real" hardware. It's off Josey and 635.

What a sucky time for that to happen! I had a capacitor blow, but the a/c supply store refused to sell me one without showing credentials. Basically, they don't sell items like that to the public.

Our capacitor went out last week. We just called these guys http://www.appliance-ac-clinic.com/ and they came out promptly and got everything working. Very friendly, and while I have no idea what a capacitor costs the cost of the service, capacitor and a freon top-off were reasonable.

I wonder why that capacitor is such a common failure. Could it be a strategic "weak link"?

Dunno, but ours lasted 11 years... I figure that's pretty good. Crappy ones on computer motherboards last much less time than that.

Damnit ... I can't believe it, but it seems that our capacitor blew last night! I'm not 100% certain if the symptoms are the same as before, but the compressor is making a loud humm, and the fan doesn't turn. I remembered the last repair guy telling me that he replaced the capacitor with a dual, since he didn't have a single with him, so I swapped the wires over to the unused terminal. When I turned the unit back on, the fan started going, and it seemed like it was going to work. However, after about 30 seconds, the fan slowed down, then came to a rapid stop. My guess is that the two capacitors weren't the same size. I tried calling the AC clinic that Elistan recommended, but they seem to be closed. Any other suggestions? I fear that my salt water aquarium isn't going to survive the heat today!
