Car Mag
I was reading a car mag waiting on a a Dr's appt yesterday and what I saw kinda floored me.
I know the Pontiac GTO is faster than an S and 0-60 in 4.9 seconds , but they were comparing it to a 4-door caddy and a chrysler 300 - both with 400 hp corvette motors.
Were you guys aware that these two sleeper cars are among us? They'd eat an S's lunch and they don't even need to shift gears. Of course, the caddy and the 300 would be drinking the gas down at an incredible rate, but still those are FAST!
I know someone here has an ominous looking black 300, but I dont remember who. Whoever it was, do you have the hot engine in it?

I know those 300's are fast.. and yeah, there are cars that are faster than ours, but there's no way they could hang through some turns... and they don't get the same looks.
Oh and yeah, gas miliage.... probably half of what we get, both cars being driven hard.

There are a lot of things that will eat an S's lunch. Come to the autox and watch my Civic eat your S's lunch.
In all seriousness, yes, the new vette motor is going to eat just about everything out there on the road. If GM can manage to stuff it into something like the Solstice or a quality chassis LESS than 3000 lbs, they will have a car on their hands that I will be breaking down the dealership door to buy.

Makes me wonder what that vette engine would do in an ultra-lite type of frame... I doubt you could keep it on the ground though.
Now I will be hesitant to hotdog in the caddy or the 300's presense - they might just show me up

i had a camaro ss before this, so i guess i dont think of this as a fast car. atleast thats not why i bought it. i bought the car for its great styling and superb handling. for the power it puts out, it has great gas mileage which is reallly a plus as well. but there are plenty of cars out there that will spank ours. i could care less, cuz i still like mine better
and if i need to go fast, i can go home and get my bike

The vette is not nearly as heavy as one might think..Mine weighs in at just about 3200 lb. It does have alot of body roll at initial turn in, I am hoping I can take care of that with the Z51 sway bars and shocks..I hope to have them on before the autocross....

things like this I need to carry my camcorder around with me.
I'm in a unique position to comment about this. I had a C5 that trapped 117mph in the 1/4 mile with a few bolt-ons, nothing serious. I now have an '05 S2000. I didn't buy the S2000 for it's straight-line speed, which is okay. I bought it for the superb handling, overall feel, and light weight, not to mention the drop-top and cool lines.
Now, at full boil an S2000 can run high 13's which is decent, but it just isn't fast anymore. A stock Chrysler 300C Hemi will give us all we can get. It has 340hp or so. The new 300C SRT-8 has 425hp and will blow the S2000 out of the water. The Cadillac CTS-V has a 400hp LS6 that will put the hurt on. Not to mention that it gets 23mpg on the highway, not bad. The STS-V has 440hp and will also pull the S2000, the XLR-V, same deal. Heck, the base XLR with the 315hp motor will probably pull us too.
Acura TL is on our butts, especially with the six-speed, new RSX-S isn't too far behind. These aren't exotic cars.
So, don't buy an S2000 for straight-line speed, buy it for it's fun engine, handling attributes, and fun factor.
