Default Data Acquisition/Logging Assitance Needed

Hello all. I'm trying to figure out a way to do some data logging. I want to be able to measure the voltage across 2 points under the hood while driving. I need to be able to log the data with a relatively high sampling rate for review.

Anyone have any clues, ideas, or equipment in order to do this?

Thanks,
Ryan

Send Marcucci a PM. He would be the best candidate.

Like what? If you need a max/min a good Fluke meter will do that. If you need resolution a datalogger will be needed.

For rough resolution, Dallas Semi sells the "iButton" that can do some basic rough-resolution datalogging (my temp buttons will do a reading every second). I suspect you need something faster than that, though.

Well, a max/min would probably suffice. I have an old Fluke meter, but it doesn't have a max/min function. My only concern would be the sampling rate. I need to measure the voltages at each RPM from, say, idle to ~8200 RPM. Seeing as lower gears (ie - sub-hyper-legal speeds) rev pretty quickly, I'm just concerned that the sampling rate of a simple voltmeter might not be high enough. I could probably pull-off a couple of 4th gear runs to redline, but I would need more than that and would rather not spend any time in jail.

Any idea how fast a nice Fluke samples?

Read marcucci's post again. A Fluke will only show min / max. It won't sample.

Are you trying to plot your battery voltage vs. RPM? You may be able to do that with an OBD-II data logger.

"User selectable rates from 5 per second to once every 12 hours."

No idea on price, sorry.

Thanks for your help and suggestions, guys. I think I've found a meter that will do what I want for a reasonable price, data logging and all:

It has adjustable sampling rates, too, so I think it may work. If not, I'll let you know...
