Thumbs up Has anyone here . .

Has anyone locally either cut out their resonator or replaced the stock mufflers with Magnaflows?

My exhaust doesn't have a resonator.

It seems like every day I read about someone who has deleted their resonator or changed the stock mufflers for Magnaflows and I was just wondering how it sounded.

I know how the Invidia sounds, or should that be sounded. I heard it before I suffered the hearing loss

I read on another board where several people had gone to a local muffler shop and simply had them remove the resonator and replaced it with a straight pipe. They were all very happy with the result giving a nice deep exhaust note without droning and the price was definitely right.

PM me if you want more info.

I have read any number of posts about removing the resonator and have also read about any number of people putting the resonator back in due to drone and a raspy sound after it has been run that way a while.

It seems most of the people have been more satisfied with changing the muffler and leaving the resonator, BUT I'd like to hear both so that I can make up my own mind.

The Fujitsubo Legalis seems to be the exhaust system that most fits my personal sound preferences and I will go that way if changing mufflers doesn't suit my tastes.

I've already had one home brew system on the car. It was a little loud but I thought I could fix that with a different muffler. On that one I put the muffler where the resonator was. It was a straight thru adjustable muffler. By having it under the pass seat it wasn't that harsh. I had a straight pipe behind the axle. It was also a single.

The same muffler on the Miata was unbearably loud but it was placed behind the axle. We ultimately replaced it with a Borla and the sound quality was very good.

Hmmm I wonder how one of those Borla Slim lines would sound?

I am sure it would need a Thumper or Boomer or something else on the tail to quiet it enough for street.

I don't know if they changed the exhaust for the '04/'05 models, but I love the stock exhaust sound. Yeah, it's a bit quiet, but when you let it rev down from high rpm, it has a nice tone to it. I've changed the muffler in ALL my previous vehicles (Del Sol, Prelude, '01 truck, '04 truck, '01 Vette), but I don't think I'm messing with the exhaust on the S2000. It's just too easy to make loud and/or ricey sounding with little to no gain in hp.

Only reason I put on an aftermarket is due to the Turbo; the stock is too restrictive as it thins down at the split to the mufflers.

I just want a little more burble. I don't want ricey or harsh. I definitely don't want Invidia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More power would be nice but just as long as I don't lose power I'll be happy. There doesn't seem to be many horses to reclaim with a new exhaust system anyway.

OK, then how about Amuse? I assume you're actually referring to my exhaust, which is the Amuse R1000, not the Invidia. In fact, you might actually like Invidias. They're not going to really burble though, because, let's face it, it's a 4-cylinder, not a small-block V8.

I thought somebody on here had the Invidia exhaust... you might see if you can hear it in person. But I'm Off-Topic, since you originally asked about cutting the resonator or using Magnaflows.
