Default Hole in Convertible Top

Hey!!! Long time no see/hear, huh?

I just wanted to ask if anyone else in DFW has had the infamous "holes in the top" problem. I took mine into David McDavid yesterday with a hole in each side. I have 45,000 miles on my 2000 model. I just got word they ARE going to replace it. Whoo Hoo!!!!

No way!!! What a surprise to see your post! We figured you had been placed in witness protection, sold your S, and moved out of the country. Where have you been and how are you?

Glad to hear that David McDavid is going to replace your top. I've replaced a few with the holes over the past few years and it's no fun. Just had a guy drive in from Mississippi this past weekend for a replacement.

First autocross is April 29th, see you there. Just like old times, eh.

And we can bring your table!

Welcome back, Molly!

OnTopic - my car has wear spots, but they have not gone through far enough to create holes. If that ever happens, I'll pursue a good-will replacement, but barring that I suppose I'll retrofit a glass-window top.

Is this where the latches are?

I got the elastic straps from www.modifry.com and that seemed to have done the trick. My top sits a lot lower then before and the latches never touch the top anymore.

The holes appear just behind the windows. There's a plastic peice on the inside of the top that performs some unknown function, but also has sharp-ish edges that rub against the fabric when the top is down. New tops have that piece of plastic trimmed so there's no rubbing.

Welcome back Molly! My top had the wear holes and AHM paid for the replacement. I opted to replace with a glass window top and ended up having to do the labor with David's help. I love the glass window.

As you can see the holes were getting pretty bad before the replacement

Well there's wear holes and there's HOLES.

The HOLES are caused by the straps loosing their stretch and the Modifry straps can prevent it. Unfortunately I didn't know about that so I had 2 of the fist sized HOLES punched in the top by the latch mechanism.

Honda acted like they had never heard of such a problem and had a rep come out before they magnanamously said they'd replace it - this time.

They also informed me they wouldn't cover any future drivetrain issues since I had a CAI.

Glad to hear Honda is handling it.

2000 model. I have been watching and mine are almost through. I had the dealer note the thin areas before warranty expired (almost 3 years ago) but will see how they respond now. Mine are in the "b pillar" area snd appear to be caused by the top folds rubbing against each other when the top is down. No straps that I can see. I have put duct tape on the inside as a pad, but it scrubs off and must be replaced.
