Moving to Arlington
Hey guys! I just accepted a job in Arlington and will be moving there from Southern California in the beginning of June.. While I'm super excited about the job, I'm a little worried that I know absolutely nothing about Arlington! I'm here to ask for your opinions on which parts of town are nice to live in, which parts I should avoid, etc.. Does anybody here live in an apartment complex there that they'd be willing to recommend? I won't be coming ahead of time to pick a place a live, I'm basically going to set up as much as I can ahead of time then just show up and hope that the decisions I made were good ones... I need all the help I can get!
What do you guys do for fun out there? I know that there are stadiums and six flags and whatnot, but like, on a regular basis, what is there to do? Do you guys get together often? Go on drives and such? Any of you ride a bike?
I'm open to all information you guys think a noob to the area needs to know, so have at it, and thank you!!

i don't know what yur budget is but, i'm about 10 miles from arlington, and have a luxury apartment w/ attached (closing) garage for $900mo including utilities. being from cali, i know thats a better deal. i had an apartment the same size in the hood that cost $1150mo

Nothing says you have to live in Arlington. Since all the cities basically run together at that point broaden your horizons and decide what your needs are in living quarters, neighborhoods, lifestyles and interests and then decide where to live that gets you the most.

VetGirl, I don't live in the Metroplex, so I cannot help with the housing issue, but I would like to say, welcome to Texas!

The Arlington area near I-20 and Cooper is nice, tons of shopping, restaurants and nice complexes. As far as night life, aka bars, clubs and such, hardly although there are some pubs. Where are you going to be working exactly? Like someone already said, just cause you work in Arlington, doesn't mean you have to live there.

welcome to texas! arlington is a nice area, my cousins live there. its an older area, so some parts are becoming a lil run down in some spots, but theres also alot of new stuff around the area too. and yeah you dont have to live by arlignton, theres a interstate for everywhere in the metro!
I'd recommend looking in Mansfield and driving to Arlington. Arlington traffic is awful, in the last 5-6 years everything has exploded over there as far as development, except for roads.... its bad. Mansfield has a small town feel but has everything you need close by and its only like 20 min from Arlington. Houses are cheap and so is rent.
I live in North fort worth in a decently nice apartment (770 sq feet with a detached garage and a covered parking spot) and only pay $640 a month.
Oh, and I do have a bike that I haven't taken out in weeks due to weather/laziness but I'm always looking for someone to ride with. Fort Worth guys have meets like every week pretty much, we do drives a few times a year and there is an autocross almost every weekend. Where are you going to be working?

Yeah Em, welcome to Texas! I lived in Arlington for a while a year or so ago and I loved it. There are plenty of things to do, and you're right in between two of the DFW S2k groups so there's never a shortage of good people, things to do, and good roads to tear down once you leave the metroplex. Let us know if you have any further questions, and there's always at least two things that go on each week s2ki-wise across the metroplex. Some Dallas guys hit up Buffalo Wild Wings weekly every tuesday night up in Carrolton, and the Ft. Worth guys usually go to this burger joint out in west Ft. Worth on Saturdays with other things like autocrosses, meets, and drives that are spread out pretty regularly...
