Unsure how the casinos on 199 survive, but they are closed down often times as soon as they open.

Boostedtaco 10-06-2008 12:20 PM

Gambling is still illegal, but there's a loop hole they use. Even if its closed down, they just open back up a few days later. The penalty is like a slap on the wrist.

Wildncrazy 10-06-2008 12:29 PM

Who do you report these guys to?

You'd think the cops would be interested but all they are interested in doing at the casinos on 199 is sitting in the parking lot of the casino so they can run radar on 199.

If the casinos on 199 are closed down ever it must be for days at a time, cause it definitely isn't for even a month.

BAMFS2K 10-06-2008 01:07 PM

The game house machines spit out tickets instead of credits or money. The tickets are used to redeam cheap trinket prizes. If the gambling house knows you, well, they may opt to pay out to keep you coming back. One bar owner told me she made $60k a year per machine.

Dave04 10-06-2008 01:09 PM

If I remember correctly, the law doesn't allow games of chance... most of the gambling places have carefully chosen games where you have some input as to how the game is played, and thus, they call it a game of skill. I believe the line there is rather vague, which explains why they get raided fairly often and are then able to re-open.

Wildncrazy 10-06-2008 02:41 PM

These give you chips &/or tickets that are redeemable for money. No cheap gifts here.

Slot machines seem to be the machine of choice. Would that be considered a game of skill?

This is real Vegas style gambling except in a metal building instead of a fancy hotel.

A call to the D.A.'s office might remedy the situation. The hard part is proving the pay out in cash.

DFWs2k 10-06-2008 03:29 PM

are they closer than WinStar?

Nah, they've got a cashier's station.

The police use their parking lots as bases for traffic stops so you know they are well aware of them.

I'll have to call the city of FW tomorrow and see what they have to say about them.

And they are way closer than Winstar.

DFWs2k 10-06-2008 03:57 PM

Oh, well wait till I go check it out before you call, lol...

BAMFS2K 10-06-2008 04:19 PM

I believe it to be a poor decision to appear at such places. My advice is to steer clear.

Doug0716 10-06-2008 08:38 PM

If the police aren't doing anything about it, maybe you'd be better off calling one of the news channel's "Street Squad" type things...

BAMFS2K 10-07-2008 08:48 AM

Such estabishments have existed in the area for decades. Perhaps I am not comprehending the renewed reason for concern.

Is this establishment negatively effecting your way of life?

You are most welcome, son. :pat:

Now the proverbial cat is out of the sack - everyone now knows I am DFWs2k's father.

DFWs2k 10-07-2008 01:41 PM

And he owes a lot of back child support, i'll send you the address so you can send Mom the check....lol...

Wildncrazy 10-07-2008 04:54 PM

The reason for the concern is that in the past 8 months the number of gambling dens of iniquity has risen from 4 to 17 and the ground was just broken on 2 more.

A side effect of this has been the street walkers.

DFWs2k 10-08-2008 06:25 AM

^Street walkers are a problem, escorts are way better.

rioyellows2k 10-08-2008 06:32 AM

A friend of mine owns a few "games of Skills" In good locations these can earn quite a bit of money per week, with the shop owner getting a cut.

A "game of skill" is the slot type machine where the roller stops when a button is depressed. Or you've got the crane with prizes of uncertain value.

There's plenty of loopholes which have been exploited.

You can close a gambling house, but they come right back.

This seems to be a trend on the rise. Street walkers are being sighted all over the city and not limited to the normal areas such as Rosedale, Hines, or the section of Main south of Exchange. It is definitely possible that the illegal gaming facilities contribute, but prostitution is running rampid in the DFW area.

Boostedtaco 10-08-2008 08:24 AM

As long as you guys don't close poker rooms, i'm happy. :D

txjeepn 10-10-2008 04:05 AM

Damm Fox 4 is going to town on this, this morning. I guess the cops are monitoring the site. Looking for street racing I guess. :burnrubr:

Well since I can't start a new thread I had to revive and edit an old thread. This is the same post as I put at the #1 spot.

I'm headin' to the drive in movie in Granbury Saturday nite. Anyone want to tag along?

Double feature of Madagascar II and Eagle Eye. But mostly top down viewing.

Gates open at 6:30 movie starts at 7:30

http://www.thebrazos.com/home.htm

mxt_77 11-07-2008 03:35 PM

That would've been cool, but I'm out of town tomorrow. Where is Granbury, anyway?

gerryk 11-07-2008 04:32 PM

its 10 minutes down the road from Cresson

mxt_77 11-07-2008 05:11 PM

^ Ahh. That's far from Wylie. :(
But sounds like it would be perfect for the Ft. Worth crew.

Have fun and dress warmly if you're planning to watch it topless!

JeffForSale! 11-07-2008 05:49 PM

will the s2k battery last that long? wouldn't want to bother the others by idling with my fart pipes..

yes, you'll bother everybody with your fart cans, but you're used to that :)

I am taking a battery powered boom box to use because I have one of those itty, bitty almost motorcycle batteries and I dont' want to take a chance

MisterMatt 11-08-2008 05:03 AM

I think I'm down
I should be there...

Wildncrazy 11-08-2008 07:00 AM

So Stickman, MisterMatt or MLK and I are going. Jeff for sale are you coming?

Anyone else?

Since the gates open at 6:30 I thought I'd leave my place at 5:30-5:45. We can meet there or we can meet at the grocery store parking lot at 377 and Hwy 20 at a little before 6:00. We were trying to get there early enough to have a picnic, but nothing says we couldn't leave a little later or simply save you a parking space if you have to come later.

My wife was cooking some fried chicken, potato salad, etc. so we could eat under the screen. You can bring food or they have a full service snack bar.

Temming and I have no control over the posting in our forum. That was made at the board admin level.

I have started a new thread concerning LJ. Very sorry to hear....he will be missed.
