Apparently you can get a red light violation for turning right on red. I found it kinda funny actually. Keep in mind, that I don't run red lights and think running red lights is wrong, although I do enjoy downshifting to run a yellow.
Heh if you look closely, you can see my girlfriend's S in front of me.
In the video (yes there's also a video), and technically if I got a ticket, she should have gotten one too... Should I contest this?
Well, if your girl didn't get a ticket for it then i think you should contest it. Did you stop....signal and then turn? If so then it should be legal. But in some case it's not if it had a warming sign that read " no right turn on red". I am driving around the metroplex every day....from downtown Dallas to uptown to Richardson to Plano to Allen to Parker to Mckinney to Frisco and so on and pretty much know where all of the red light camera but not once that i got a ticket for turning right at the red light. But like i had say...if it got a warming sign then yes...they can give you a ticket.
If there isn't a sign that says "No turn on red", then you should be able to legally make a right turn after coming to a complete stop and checking for oncoming traffic.
The imposition of a civil fine is not a conviction for any purpose, including insurance rates. Payment of a civil fine is not reported to the Department of Public Safety
Translation:
"Since using a camera to enforce traffic laws infringes on your constitutional right to confront your accuser in a court of law, we inserted this line of bulls%&# so that we can continue to use these devices to make up our budget shortfalls... erm, we mean, to improve your safety."
I'd send them back a photograph of $75, and another photograph of my middle finger.
If there isn't a sign denying the right to turn on a red, you should fight this successfully. Otherwise, you aren't going to have much luck.
This sucks. I can't believe the crap that is being passed these days. Heck, in Virginia they're not even pretending to do it in the name of safety - they're clearly stating it is for revenue purposes.
