Removing black windshield tape
It took me about three hours Sunday to get the tape and goo off, but it was worth it. My Suzuka Blue now needs a blue convertible top.
Does anyone have a clue why Honda decided to place the black tape on the cars imported into North America? Dumb idea in my opinion.

The goo should be able to be removed using some 'Goo Gone'. When using this stuff, jsut do not rub the paint really hard and you won't scratch the clear coat. It may take awhile since you can't put a lot of pressure behind it, but it's worth it not to damage the paint.
As for the reasoning behind the tape... My theory is I think the designers thought the car looked better with the window frame black with the black soft top up. Granted most of us drive top down every second we can, but that's jsut my theory on it all.
Glad to hear it worked out for you. I was talking to you about it just before the drive's started at the Roundup. You said you were going to this week probably. Glad to see it was successful.
Should've just bought a black S though, no tape.

Congrats (and I'm taking a little credit for helping to inspire you). My own removal experience was less traumatic, as I didn't even need the Goo Gone (I tried it, but it didn't help) -- just a lot of rubbing. Two blisters later, the Suzuka looks so much better.
I was surprised that, even after a couple of Texas summers, that adhesive was still perfectly flexible.
I don't think anyone knows why Honda did it. Any argument that they thought it looks better has to deal with their deciding not to do it for any market other than North America. Maybe they think we have different (in my opinion, worse if it supports the tape) tastes.

ya, I knew about the additional colors. There are like 9 total or something like that available in Japan... er um.. I mean 12 colors. Very interesting that they put the tape around the windshield of USDM models. Now I'm even more puzzled as to why. Crazy Honda of America. If it was an Acura, it would have probably come without the tape.
I like the darker blue and red A LOT. Although the blue almost looks a little purple. (POS work computer, resolution sucks)
The orange is kinda.. different... but would be nice.
You can also get a different color soft top for certain models standard from the dealer over there too.
I really miss living there .

For those that can't read Japanese, here's a link directly to the page with all the colors available.
