Default S2000 VS ICE

So I venture out this morning since the last weather reports I heard were that the ice storm was supposed to be done by monday.

Well I'm on hulen and its all fine. I'm still going slower than normal just in case. I go under I20 and half way to bellaire I switch into the middle lane going about 12mph because I could tell that it was icy the way the back end felt. Well that was a mistake.

Suddenly the backend just slowly slides out to the right and I do a 180 and I just basically was like "eh not much I'm gonna be able to do" and just let it do its thing.

Luckily it barely tapped the curb and caused no damage since the fuzion ZRi's I have are wider and took the impact.

It was kind of funny how it all happened in slow motion and it wasn't even scary since I knew the inevitable was about to happen

Also saw a Yellow S on hulen right near the mall today

I saw a Silverstone 04ish (with a pretty cute girl in it) today as I went out for lunch. All I could think was "I can't believe they're taking the S2000 out in this ice." I wouldn't have the nerve to do it. It was bad enough in the Accord w/ Suzy SoccerMom whipping by in her SUV, because we all know that AWD defeats all laws of physics, and 3 ton SUVs are easier to stop on ice.

Drove into work this morning around 5:30am and it was pretty hairy in a few spots. Wasn't so worried about me as I was with the cars skidding off the road in front of me.

Anyway, made it safe and sound.

Yup it was interesting.

Everything was fine until I switched to the middle lane. Then my back end which I just lightened by taking the spare, tools and trash out of decided to go skating lol

It was actually quite funny because I knew I shouldn't have been out there in the first place

But alas she's fine.

ABS kept kicking in every time I'd even attempt to feather the brakes.

Best was when I was on the freeway hours later and hit a patch of ice and the back end did the wiggle and I was like "ok this one may hurt" but I reigned it back in.

Damn the S for being such a lightweight, rwd, powerful sports car

When you run over ice (and water), steady gradual movements of the steering, gas, brakes will help you out. By doing this, you "warn" the car and give it time to react. Quick jerky movements will upset the car and make things go from bad to worse real quick. Think of the gas, brakes, steering as a big volume knob that you turn slowly to get it to play

Luckly, i live about 3 miles from work... Bad thing is, its not as busy, so it gets abit more ice. I couldnt even think about touching the brakes or my ABS would kick in.. also, starting from a stoplight etc would result in the Traction Control comming on.

But i did find the parking lot behind work to be covered in ice, and had abit of fun with TC off. : )

Oh when I was talking about braking I meant before I hit the ice just normal driving.

I definately did not hit the brakes. I just tried to slightly steer out of the spin, lifted off the throttle gently and then reapplied it slightly to try and regain control.

I've already gotten used to it in the rain but I haven't even driven in ice in probably 5 years lol.

Nothing worked. Then again I'm still learning the car.

My Z was easier to tell when it was at its limits.

Although I am planning on doing some auto-x this year.

I have the toyota and a wonderful LSD. there were people going by like IDIOTS at 50-60 mph this morning!!

the best one was the dodge p/u 4x4 that spun out into a light pole westbound 114 right at the 114/121 split... i can hear him calling dodge now... "but i had it in 4x4 - this shouldn't have happened at any speed..."

i wasnt so much worried about the S now as i will be once it's melted and everyone is switching lanes and causing sandstorms all over the paint....

guys, its gonna be a month at least befre the S comes out to play again.... at least mine anyways...
