Is it a difficult DIY replacement?
There are how-to's in the UTH section. If you still have your stock airbox, it's a little more challenging, but if you have a CAI, it's about a 10-15 minute job.

Skip them. Few months ago my god brother went to that dealer for his civic wiper. He said he asked them to replace it for him and most of service guys tried walk away and 2 mechanic guys had hard time replacing those.

Educate me. What happens to you alls timing chain tensioners? For the K series guys, the factory K20 is not enough to rev past 8000. There are aftermarket tensioners but what happens in your case?

Mike, as you can see by the pictures the worm gear gets polished down over time. I've tried replacing with new units and some with the worm gear sanded by hand. Both ways worked at first but proved only to be a temporary fix. So far sandblasting the worm gear has been the best long term solution.

I don't see how sand blasting the worm gears would fix anything. It just doesn't make sense that new gears would quit working when they become polished, then sand blasting them would make them work again. What about a polished gear makes it not work?

Why does this not surprise me?

The polished gear does not have enough friction and will back out. Sandblasting roughens the surface creating more friction. I and many others have had success using this method

There is a long thread dedictated to this over in UTH. I, in no way take credit for coming up with this idea. I gave it a try because nothing else had proved to be an effective solution. So far so good
