We have the 712's and if you're just going to drive on the street they're fine but they are terrible for autocross.
...
Who says? I think I finished fourth at one event on my 712's last year
Though yes, I have to admit, they weren't nearly as good as the S02s.

I like the Kumho 712s for daily driving and having fun with. They start talking when you're pushing it and keep you in line on the street. They are also good in the rain... I've gone through 1.5 sets...
I've also been autocrossing and went to the track event on the Hankook RS2s and would also recommend them for daily driving. I drove on them for a couple of weeks before and after our most recent track event. I'm not sure I love them for autocross, but I was passing 911s, Mustangs, Vettes, and a couple of s2ks in the blue group at MSR on them and they have a nice progressive slip to them as well. They also felt a bit stickier to me than my 712s once they had some heat in them.

I've gotten my last few sets of tires done at Christensen Tire svc (it's a goodyear store) at... ummm... Arapaho and Plano Rd I think. They're on Tire Rack's list of recommended installers.

It's a little expensive - like $20-something per tire - but they do a good job, they're quick etc.

Oh - I'm all ears on tire recommendations.. it's about time for me to replace again, too. I'm definitely not getting S-02's next time. If nothing else I'll get some S-03's. They're supposed to handle nearly as well as the S-02 but they have a treadwear rating of 220 instead of 140
I took my car to Christensen once for alignment and they told me that it would take them 3-4 hrs to align my car since I had a "race" suspension on and it would cost me a good 120 dollars an hr for it. I sort of froze and said uhhhhh okay.. didnt know what to say about that ridiculous price and time quote.

since you're in FW.. there's a place here in Euless that i use for all my sales.. they charge 10$ per tire to M&B.. if you're interested PM me...

for tire recomendations.. I just put Falken's on my car. GR-Beta FK-451's on the rear and Ziex ZE 512 on the front. the GR-Beta's are hard to come by in the 205 size would have taken about a week to get em from Falken. I have enjoyed them very much so far.. the GR-Beta's are 280 AA A (that AA is for A in wet traction and A in dry) and the 512's are 360 A A... that set up would run around 350$ installed plus tax. granted we haven't had any rain since I got them to see if that AA really is true or not.. but trust me first chance I get I'm gonna. they seem to heat up MUCH faster than the S02's... keep me planted to the ground. I've noticed TONS less scratching while shifting 1-2 and 2-3 with them.. like NONE in 2-3 and almost never in 1-2... the GR-Beta's 225 is actually .1" wider tread than the 225 S02... I'm actually going to go take her out here in a little bit and see what i can do with em since I noticed pennington field parking lot is empty for once...
Is this place you speak of Republic tire?

When I compared the option of Tire Rack VS Discount, here's what I find:

Kuhmo 712's:

Tire Rack Cost: 144.00

Discount: 178.00

20.00 shipping for two tires plus 10.00/tire to M&B only give you a slightly better price going through Tire Rack. Plus the aggravation of having to haul the tires to get M&B'd.... My gusss is DT would match that 144.00 price and it would simplify things greatly.

is that cost per tire?! and if so that better be for the 245's

with the 712's you should go with the 245's

i can do 245's for 130.02 per tire.. and 225's *I* can't even get em for less than that.. well if you add the shipping to them I can come REAL close to tire rack.. and make it so you don't have to deal with DT IF you so choose not to deal with them.. 81.60$ per tire...

PLUS I'll meet you at the tire place with the tires so you don't have to haul anything anywhere..
No, not per tire, that was for 2 fronts, installed - total cost for size 205 55 R16.

Remember, I don't auto-x, or drive hard....

oh for fronts.. ok...well it would be about the same price because the W/D that I was getting the quote from before doesn't have any 205's in stock nor will they in the near future and have to go through the more expensive one. for both fronts it would be 161.42$ plus tax..
