Default TIRES?

I am having a hard time finding aftermarket tires that get a little more life without losing too much performance.

Any suggestions? I will be wanting W rated and 205/55/16 front and 245/45/16 rear.

I've looked at two so far (Yokohama AVS ES100 and Dunlap sport 5000).

I'm getting desperate. Not much rubber left on the S02's. There is less than 2/32 and winter is around the corner.

Thanks in advance.

James

I think Mr. Temming has the Hankook RS-2 setup on his ride -- 225s up front and 255s out back on the stock 16" wheels. Looked to be a nice fit when I saw it at the last auto-x.

Best,
Stanford

I have used the Yokohama AVS ES100. They are sticky enough (although they don't compare to S-02's), put are relatively cheap and last a good long time.

Regards,

Al

I agree, the ES100's are OK but don't offer the grip and get really loud when 1/2 worn. I'd check into the Hankook RS-2, more S02's, or Kumho MX's. You may not be getting great wear but it's just not worth having crappy tires on a car that was designed to be driven...IMO.

For street driving I really like my Kuhmo Ecsta 712's ... decent grip, handles lots of water and lasted well comparably.

I like the MX's better of course, but can't say how they'll stand up wear wise yet.

Clovis,

I have a set of Hankook RS-2's for autoX. I have a Whiteline anti-sway bar.

Should I go with 205/55/16's or 225/50/16's?

ES100's go to hell in a hurry if you autox. They also stick less than a greased pig when they are worn.

I have been VERY happy with the Kumho 711's on the Civic. Can't beat them for the price.

Thanks for all of your help. I decided on the Kumho Ecsta 712's @ 225/50/16 and 245/45/16. Discount tire says they wear well and they are supposed to handle good in wet and cold weather as well. The fronts are $93 and the the rears are $163 . Don't know why the difference, but it saves considerable $s compared to the S02's.

Woe, you might want to talk to Al Cavan about that pricing. Tire Rack, which Discount matches, is $89 front and $98 rear.
