Default tires

Just curious if anyone in the metroplex has been satisfied with any tires besides s-02's and s-03s.

Need new rear tires pretty soon and wanted to see if i could pay less than 200 per tire.

Thanks for the responses in advance!

I am looking at the Hankook R-S2 Z212 to replace my cheap tires. Opinions?

i like my toyo T1R's alot. 215/45/17 front and 245/40/17 in the rear (oem sizes).....the work alot better in the rain than my ES100's did.

As a street tire, I like the Kumho 712 a lot. Not as much grip as the S02 (or the Hankook RS2) but very good response feel (as good as S02 and much better than RS2.) For 17" applications, the Kumho MX rocks, but isn't available in the correct sizes for 16" last I checked.

I want to try the Pirelli Nero M&S when my tires get lower tread.

ES100s have an infuriating mushy sidewall and/or tread squirm. Definitely not recommended.

If you go with the Kumho MX (recommended tire) on stock rims, then you have to choose a 225/50/16. Most people will tell you this is a bad thing since the S-02s are abnormally wide, but the MX has a listed section width 0.1" larger than the S-02s. Tread width is not listed.

I had the Nero on my S2000 and couldn't wait to be done with them. The grip was even less than the ES100 and turn-in was very sloppy.

Kumho MXs or Falken RT615s have been OK, but not as grippy as the S2000-spec Bridgestones IMHO. Hankook RS2s have been well-reviewed in the magazines but I've heard +s/-s from the high-skill / high-PAXing drivers.

Hard to believe anything has less grip than the ES100. I had them for a little bit and got rid of them with less than 1000 miles of use on them.

Wow, that is pulling the trigger quickly.. most tires need that use or more before you can really tell what the performance is like, that is why I really don't trust magazines tests on 'green' tires. But I have yet to buy a Yoko tire I liked on any car so I trust you are right about the ES100's.

I have the Kumho 712's on my wife's Maxima and like them.. may have to reconsider them but in a brief test drive in an S2000 some time ago I was disappointed in their performance. I heard a rumor that they were being phased out but it seems TR has them at a good price so I may go there.

Mark, do the RS2's have too soft a sidewall? I drove a guy's Mazda with them and they felt good but not being used to the car I really could not judge.

I am open to ideas and would not mind hearing opinions on the Fuzion ZRi if anyone has tried those.
