Any paint shop will paint wheels for you.
Since baking the wheels could make the wheels weaker, people say that, but I wouldn't worry about it if you're not tracking the hell out of your wheels.

Most people don't know from experience what powdercoating will/will not do to wheels. In most cases, a good shop will start out cold and warm it up. If done that way, you should have zero problems.

I've owned and driven on 10+ sets of wheels that were powdercoated with Zero issues. It's all just a bunch of hype. Paint chips off, powder doesn't. Plain and simple.

The problem is that some people actually do stress the hell out of their wheels, and can't afford to weaken them AT ALL. I wish I had a picture, but my 1st set of light weight racing wheels actually did break during an autocross. I was having a pretty good run before the center section broke, and the wheel went sailing!

^ I wouldn't necessarily blame the powdercoating in that case, could just as easily have been impurities cast into the wheel when it was made...

Im not going to try to tell you don't, but I will say I wouldn't. Here is a link to a guy here on the forum that had his OEM wheels powdercoated. Since they are OEM, I dont think this was due to the casting process.

That is the same area where my race wheels failed, but they actually broke all the way through, and went sailing off into the sunset.

If you read a few of the replies, there is one from jim@tirerack that talks about a set of SSR wheels that had been powercoated and cracked.

It also says they sent them back to SSR. They tested the wheels and found the heating process weakend the wheels.

Unless your wanting some really exotic color you can do the painting yourself and pocket the savings.

Decent how to painting wheels using Dupli-color.
