Default Will this fit?

Hey guys,

I am running a 17X8 rear rim on my s2k and looking to put a 255/40/17 tire on it.
Just looking to see if anyone knows for sure if this tire will fit that rim.

Thanks for the help.

it will fit but it will bulge a little. it will be fine or you could run a 245-45-17 which is a little narrower.

Now whether it will fit without rubbing would be determined by the offset of the rim

I have 255/40/17 tires on my 17x9 Volks and the tires fit perfectly.

It all depends on offset, lowering, and alignment. On a +45 it may rub slightly w/o going a little more negative camber on alignment, unless you are on a stock suspension.

If you are on +55's then there should be no issue, regardless of your alignment or lowering.

On +35's you will likely have issues unless you run more neg camber than stock, or a LOT more negative camber if you are lowered and you may also need to roll.

In any case, a mild roll should fix any issues you have.

Oh, and BTW, the "official" wheel/tire fitment guide I found on this board was complete crap. On top of what I've already mentioned, the actual tire you run matters, I've seen 245's that were wider than 255's just depending on the brand and model tire. Rim width also has a lot to do with it, your 255 will probably act more like a 250 or 245 as the rim will "pinch" the tire a little bit.

I'd stick with no more than 245/40 on an 8" rim, IMO.
On the M3's we were running 245/40-17 on the rear 8.5" wide rims and it was really just about perfect.
