I have an old Yamaha receiver. I forget the model number, but it was something like RX795 or RX995, I think. 100W RMS x5 channels. Dolby Digital & DTS decoding.

Only known problem is that you can't use the remote to switch to the "TV" input, you have to manually get up and do it.

Unfortunately, since I'm not very keen on selling audio products (since you can usually use at least the amplifier portion for many years), I couldn't see taking less than $400 for it.

It doesn't do HDMI switching, and I'm not even sure if it has component inputs, so I'm guessing he wouldn't be interested.

Oh, and it's not NIB, but I still have the box & manuals.

haha thanks... ill ask him, but yeah i thin he was pretty set on having component inputs, so he can connect his dvd player, tivo thing, that way, so he can just keep the tv on component , and just select tv or dvd on the reciever to switch devices... thanks anyway!

components aren't always needed on the receiver. i have an optical cable going from the back of my receiver to the comcast hd/dvr box, and then components from the box to the back of the mitsu big screen.

denons are nice.... but might be too much $ for him.. i was thinking along the lines of:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/prod...9691824,00.html

or
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...-K&btnG=Search

not super duper high quality.. but it will most def. get his job done...

they should only run around 250$ or so... not too bad.

If he is not an audiofile and and is looking at lower end stuff he would be better off to just get a home theater in a box setup IMHO.That Pioneer is pretty dirty at .1 to .2 THD.

ehhhh i was kinda trying to stay away from that stuff... i think you can get a "larger" sound by going with a receiver, and some bookselfs / towers + large sub... well like i mean like 150$ 200ish watt 10" or so sub...

imma go shopping for shit tomorrow so we will see.... maybe the home theatre in a box has improved a bit..

I agree but to do it right he will need to spend at least $1,000 minimum. Speakers and amps are things that really should be heard by the buyer since everyones ears are different. Have him listen to this setup. IMO pretty hard to beat for the $
130 watts per channel 7.1 XM ready......
I guess I have a thing for Onkyo

I prefer Polk speakers but might be more than He wants to spend.....
