Default 02 clutch problem

Am I the first

The clutch on my 02 has started to smell every time I drive the car and it really is quite offensive.
Became so bad yesterday that on pulling away from a junction the clutch was spinning all the way through to 3rd gear Vtec

Is that as a consumable? - or is it warranty?

Blimey - I'll have to keep a look-out for that one (not that it'll be hard to miss....)

Alex.

How have you driven it, high rev standing starts or just normal wear & tear? Have you confirmed its warranty? also is yours one of the 02 models with the new clutch or old clutch?

For what its worth in my opinion the Honda clutch, whether it is a 01 or a 02 is not up to the job at all.
I am not referring to the ringing or other associated noise problems that have dogged the clutch, just simply it is not strong enough in both clutch plate or pressure plate to take the performance of the S2000 and the different driving techniques of your every day driver.
A far stronger clutch needs to be fitted than the one that is currently being offered if it is to cease as a problem.
I know you shouldn

I noticed that mrsoften on the board was having a clutch replaced after only a few weeks of ownership.

Apparently clutches are harder to design for a car like this than you would at first think. Hence all the problems.

The up side is that Honda are aware of the problems and have included the cost of several replacement clutches in the price of the car. So they seem happy to replace them when things go wrong.

The car is basically driven in the spirited fashion for which it was designed.

you aint kidding

Colly and I came up to the meet together - I think you could call it a 'spirited Drive'
