Default 04 Problem NO VTEC

Just passed 1300 miles, and completeley lost VTEC push, when i get to 6000 the noise was there but no VTEC push to 8000 just a linear increase in power

Took it in to dealers, they agreed agreed no VTEC push, checked Oil (OK)and kept for a day , and put some cleaning fluid into the petrol tank, to clean out dirty fuel (this is what they suspect has caused the problem) I am not sure if they are right

This has improved it slightly but VTEC still not as pronounced as my old 02 why ?

I have been using BP Ultimate from day 1, and they have suggested i switch to Optimax, will this make the difference they are suggesting

Have any other 04s had this lack of VTEC push

Any thoughts ?

I can`t be completely conclusive here but I do believe the engine mgmt/mapping provides a much less pronounced x-over on the 04. Its approach is far more linear.

Is this a case of there being a push there once on your 04 and its gone now? Or is it a case of this is the first time you`ve properly tried to engage vtec?

I can see your carefully crafted wit is as acerbic as ever

I started to use the VTEC from about 800 miles up to about 7-7500 rpm, and extended it to 8000 after that

The loss of VTEC is only in the last week.

There is some rumour coming out thru Honda that the 04 is fitted with an I-Vtec which apparently gets used to driving style, and adjusts VTEC accordingly

The I-Vtec info was given to me by Honda UK last week, (there is nothing in there literature) they then referred me back to the dealer to check it out

Sounds like Bollox to me.

Have you tried the MAP sensor? Do a search on it for instructions

You have a major problem micheal. I am trying to help you and your paranoid switch has flicked over to ON.

I will ignore your intial response and continue to try once more.

We have now established that you have had a vtec push - so there is a problem here.

The I-vtec info is nonsense. There is a problem with your car. Follow Neils advice and check out the map sensor.

I`d have a beer this pm if I were you.

VTEC transition on my 04 seems more pronounced not less. Noise and power come on strong at around 6k revs.

Ok. So the general response to the 'I think I have a problem with my VTEC' is 'you seem to have a problem with your VTEC'.

We could all become dentists (you know, when you wait three weeks for an appointment to see the dentist after a filling has fallen out, you see him/her, they lok and say 'a filling has fallen out, make an appointment and I will refill it')

There is at least one thread describing how to make the MAP sensor work, which Chesh has mentioned. I have not experienced this problem, but my memory of the stories is complete loss of the transition to VTEC followed by full restoration of VTEC once MAP sensor has 'the treatment'.

IMHO no way is dirty fuel, or BP vs Shell going to have the effect you are describing, particularly after only 1300 miles. You are being fobbed off. You need to adopt the Look I know what I am talking about, and so do my 300 mates. Given you are in London I am sure a few guys could show up to give you support if necessary.

Which dealer BTW? Have you checked them out on the dealer survey thread? Name and shame.

Well it can't be due to a failure of the mechanism or your engine would be in little bits on the floor. Sounds more like fuel starvation.

The adaptive stuff sounds nonsense. That does work with autos where it "learns" when to shift up or down, but I can't see how that can work with a manual.
