Default 04 Test Drive

Took my S into the dealer today for the interim oil change. Whilst I was there I took the opportunity to test drive a new 04 model. Only had a 10 minute wizz around but the new gearbox is fantastic, so smooth and no notchiness .

Then it got me thinking about my gearbox. It is quite notchy from 1st to 2nd. Is this normal, or should I get it looked at ?

BTW

Mines notchy (especially when cold and the car hasn't been used for a week!) but its not too bad when the oil warms up and I've grown used to it. I think I read somewhere that they changed the synchro's in the 04 so that's probably why it seemed better, as opposed to a fault with yours IMO.

My gearbox is slower when cold, but still notchy from 1 - 2nd when warm. The 04 was straight out of the showroom and had 100 miles on the clock. I noticed the difference immediately!

My 04 has 4,500 on it now, the gearbox still gets smoother as it warms up. Fairly similar feel to my 52.

Dave, the 04 gearbox has a triple carbonfibre somethingorother to address the specific problem of 1st to 2nd gear changes. Both my S2000s had/have the same issue - shifting under full throttle can cause a mis-shift despite making sure the clutch is fully dpressed etc. To be honest, the only thing which I particularly desire about the 04 is the gaearbox improvement (there are nicer and lighter 17" wheels out there IMO)

when i had my 055 clutch done, I think they replaced the fluids in the gearbox . It was noticeably better afterwards. Stanza commented on it too on a comparison test drive..

My 02 was a bit notchy until warmed up. Funny how you forget these things. The 04 doesn't seem to have this problem at all.
