Default 16's V 17's

ok so ive finally fitted a set of 17"s to my car replacing the 16's

I thought id share my thoughts... Ive got bridgestones on the back of the 17's ( same as the 16s) and Falcon 452's on the front ( the 16s had GSD3's )

I find the car is 'harder' and feels more planted - eg the back just does not step out like it used to under a bit of gentle persuasion on my favorite roundabouts - so i can see why so many people find the later models ' 'snap' more - though this may be down to the fact the tyres on this are much newer and grip better as my last pair were nearly worn out ? I also find the ' turn in ' a bit more vague and not as pointy on the 16s

All in it does feel a different car, and id almost go so far as to say i preferred they way it drove on 16's ( typically i don't like change lol ) though im sure i need to find were the limit is on these tyres ( but cant really do this on the road as im not stupid... ) and gain a bit more confidence in them so suppose, but in short they def grip better and feel more planted under normal driving - and the steering does not seem to generate the same feedback. Anyway just thought id share !!

I wouldn't compare a 16" car fitted with 17" wheels to a 17" car
The suspension is significnatly different.
Also you have two different makes of tyres on each "axle", that is likely to contributre to the "difference" to 16"
Generally though going for 16" to 17" OEM's does seem to work well for peps.

Tomkbucks, trust me you're never going to be happy with your new 17's, they will never feel right on your car and you will lose confidence and have to sell yer motor.

Now, nobody would want you to go through all of that so you should take the 17's off and sell them to me!

My03 S is way better than it was with the 16's. I had a full geo done as well but the way it handles and the fact that you have to coax a side slip rather than the norm coupled with the better feedback i am getting (prob due to the thinner tyres at the front) is a go go for the 17's. i am running toyos proxies T1R, a great tyre for the road.
