Default The 1st Week

Well i've had it (her) for 9 days. Have done 780 miles.
This weekend have done about 200miles.

Saturday.

Cheshire/South Manchester to Chester up the Wirral via A540 with stop-offs in Parkgate, Heswall & Thurthaston. Then through the tunnel & Liverpool up to Formby for some frolics in the dunes. Onto Southport & then back via some mean & twisty A roads which provided great oppurtunites with the handling, onto the East Lancs road & then some minor diversions around the north of Warrington & back home.

Great fun, top down all the way. Cracked the 600 mile barrier going through Maghull!!

Sunday

6.30am start along the A55 (rain & top up...boo) to Denbigh via St Asaph & some business i have up there. Back approx 4.30pm top down all the way from Denbigh. Good speeds along the A55 with great views across the Dee.

Am now pretty knackered so back to work for a rest. Things is, its so sunny outside i can feel the country roads of Cheshire calling me for a blast at lunchtime!!! Just like last week!

To anyone lurking here thinking about buying one of these babies. Don't lurk, don't think any longer. Go & buy one! Life is pretty dull without one i can assure you!

Ed

PS Am wondering if i should get my local stealer to do an oil change to flush out any crap during the early run-in.

I wouldn't bother, Ed. The service manual mentions an optional oil change at 4,500 miles but most of us don't bother.

If you do get the oil changed early on, remind the dealer that they need to replace the molybdenum additives in the oil which apparently assist in running the engine in.

Yeah i read that too.

Someone mentioned getting it changed around the 1k mark to get rid of the kak that running in creates.

Doesn't the 10w30/10w40 mineral oil have the additives in already? What happens during routine running in when you top up the oil? Surely you are reducung the amount of molybdenum additive still in the engine.(If you know what i mean) Subsequent topping up with 'standard' mineral oil replacing the original etc. Have to say oil consumption has been very low. Only had to stick about 0.1 of a litre in so far.

It's only really an issue if you do a wholesale oil change, as the additives aren't contained in the oil you will replace it with.

Topping up won't pose a problem as the 04+ engines seem to burn very little oil (if any - it was several thousand miles in before mine needed topping up) and so there will be very little dilution of the existing oil.

Thanks for that.

Clears up my thoughts on that one.

Sounds like a good trip.
I didn't change the oil and as LL said you will find that the 04 shouldn't use much oil.

Which dealer are you using ?

I haven't used one yet as such but i have one local to me in Altrincham (Arnold Clarks off Stockport Road). There is also a dealer in Warrington, not checked them yet.
