Default 2002 head unit compatable with CD-R/ CD-RW

I have done a search on the forum, & I have seem some differing opinions on this from the US (now I am a little confused). I would like to know if the 2002 standard head unit will play CD-R and CD-RW. Does anyone have experience of any issues

Thanks in advance for you help

John

My experience of cd-r's, is that you have to try them & hope they will play.

I recorded some discs for home use, only to find my domestic cd player

had too high a tolerence, so wouldn't play 'burnt' cd's

however after trying another disc manufacturer (maxell in this case)

they work fine. the stock unit is in no way high end so in theory they should

play ok. the trick I THINK IS IN THE RECORDING - try uprating the ram for the

program that you use & record them at the slowest speed i.e 1x or 2x this

writes less errors to the disc.

hope this helps

I've tried a few burnt cd's, and they work fine on the 2002 player.

Not too sure how it works, but the CD-R's were really cheap, bought from my local staples ! Bonus !

Thanks warren,

I would be recording these on a Philips system not a pc. The Philips unit lets me write the disks at normal playing speed or up to 4X playing speed. The unit will "fianlise the disk". The recorded disk will play on a full size Sony cd player, but not on my Goodmans mini system.

I have tested it on a couple of different car head units(but not yet on the S, as mine does not arrive till Oct) on someunits it works but not on others...so you can see why i have asked the question. I have only ised TDK disks so far, so yor comment on the disc type is very welcome.

The recorder I have is only on loan, but I am pushed for a decision on the purchase of it...I dont want to buy it if the S2K head unit will not play the disks.

Regards

John

I've burnt 10 CD-Rs for my '02 model S so far. They're compilations done on a PC. No problems to date, but I haven't tried CD-RW.
I had hope that the head unit would support CD-Text, so added the data to the CD-R, but the '02 head unit doesn't seem to support this.
