Default 2008 s2000

I know they tweaked it abit on the 2008 models, how does it feel compared to the older models? does anyone know if the VSA add much weight to the car? and has anyone bought those Mugen GP wheels? how much weight do you save compare to the stock wheels? and wheres Adrian from North Wales?!

Nope, they've probably added weight, softened the suspension and smoothened the VTEC change over like previous updated models.

You'll find nothing as hardcore as a MY99 to a MY01 .

FFS I just did a long reply and then pressed the wrong button....

Here's a shorter version!

I own an 08, and have previously owned 03 and 04 models.

Main (and pretty much only IMO) difference driving feel-wise is harder ride (although car can still feel wallowy and underdamped at high speed on undulating roads).

VSA-wise, whilst you can feel the system preventing the inner wheel spinning whilst turning tightly up a steep hill - like ABS in reverse - (e.g. going up Saltburn Bank for any oop-northers reading..), the back of the car can still start to come round on you when accelerating full-VTEC-chat on wet roads in 2nd/3rd. To evaluate the efficacy of the system more throughly, I plan in the near future to repeatedly provoke the car round a wet roundabout in the middle of the night to see how the car behaves with the VSA on and off.

(Don't know about the Mugen wheels or where Adrian from NW is!)

Not so. The VSA may have added a kilo or two of weight, but other changes to the car quite to the contrary actually involve the set-up of the car having largely been returned to that of MY99-01 cars - i.e. more 'hardcore' than MY02-07. VTEC transition to me feels just the same as MY04.

Carefull Ron, I did that (with VSA on)and understeered towards the kerb at an alarming rate of knots. With VSA off, oversteering towards the kerb at an alarming rate of knots is far more fun.

I've found VSA doesnt like undulating roads at speed either, I managed to trigger it in a straight line on a stretch of the A54 once

Yes, but how many claim to have lost it in a straight line?

The VSA is probably a good thing.

The Mugen GPs are a lot lighter than 17" but heavier than the BBS 16" before. The heavy Honda items would have destroyed the ride quality entriely!

The reduced offsets does make the car slightly less stable under severe braking on bumpy roads.

I'm still getting rear-end grip problems with the 17"; I think it needs more rear camber.

I dont know about claim Nick, moreso admitting to loosing it in a straight line.

My particular experience was a cut in power after taking a "bump" in the road at Mr Sulu like velocity

I had a 2008 S2000 on test drive for week last year - I set the wheels in motion to buy an S the day I gave the demo back.

I've never driven an early model, but the '08 car was a lot better than the 05 I bought (didn't do my homework). The back end was definitely stiffer, there was less body roll and more 'feel'.

Adjustable drop links have pretty much cured the my05 bouncy arse end syndrome. Fast road geo & lower braces have made a massive difference too, but I think I'd still welcome the stiffer dampers from the 08 car (obviously, I'll go for a different brand of coilovers when I make the change).

As for the more agressive V-Tec change on early cars, I'd love to try it, but it's probably the only 4-pot motor that beats the later version in my car, so I'm happy enough with what I've got. Also on the plus side, I wonder if the 'smoother' transition makes the car a bit easier to keep hold of, especially in the wet?.....
