hi took the car out tonight. noticed when i go into 5th gear it pops out? if i try and make it pop out it wont. but if im just cruising it will pop out? any ideas? the gearbox has only done 20k+

 

Had this problem once, couldnt get it to stay in 5th on the motorway for more than 30secs before it popped out. (I crunched the box earlier that morning which seemed to cause the problem, and despite a huge amount of mototrway and city miles that day the issue persisted)

Gave the car a two day rest, when I next took her out I was firm with the gear selection and it had 'fixed' itself!?

I had something very similar when I owned my 02 - the synchromesh in 5th gear had collapsed.

Mercifully, it was under warranty and so I didn't pay for the required replacement gearbox....

 

Not looking good then? Are these gearboxes weak?? It's already had a replacement from Honda

 

just took it out again. was doing about 40mph put it in 5th its fine when your gentle with throttle.soon as u put your footdown it pops out??

 

getting strange by the minute. now its fine.goes into gear and doesnt pop out of 5th? still early days.any idea what can cause this? gonna change gearbox oil.

 

I had this problem with my S, but with 6th gear. It would jump out of gear now and then when cruising, with no obvious reason for it happening. The car had done about 30k at this point.

Luckily the car was under warranty, although Horizon Honda couldn't find a fault when they stripped the box. However, they still replaced the selector, detents and Synchro, which (touch wood) has cured the problem.

My S popped out of 6th from new - usually on the over-run or cruising gently. A new gearbox was installed a 900 or so miles.

 

find it strange to be honest. as i said this morning it i was gentle with throttle it was ok. but when i put my foot down it jumped out. an 1 hr later took it out again. all was fine? prob done another 20miles today and again seems fine?
