That's what I had to pay, and they charged me 30 minutes labour to change it.

I know they are not cheap, but that seems exorbitant to me.

Sounds about right to me.
HID bulbs are expensive.

You could have saved a few pennies by getting a bulb from a breaker or from hardtop guy.

im sure i bought my replacement dip bulb from halfords and replaced it in about 15 mins. with scratched arms.
it's the main beam that are h.i.d. and can strore a static charge which will give you a good jolt.

difference in terminology there i think dave

main beam is the HID - ie the normal headlight (dipped, hence dip)
high beam is the one with blue light on the dash - that is replaceable
