LLOYDJ thats a really silly thing to do mate, non-disclosure = void insurance. or at least they will try and not pay out in the case of a total loss...

They will pay out, but you will only get OEM replacement parts & costs.

Found this out from my own experience!

No no sorry, You have to tell you insurance company if you change your car at all! Its irelevent about only getting rhe OEM replacement parts.

If you Have mod on your car and you dont tell your insurance company your give them a big wide door with a 'Way Out of Paying' sign on it.

In there eyes:
Cosmetics changes (inculeding exhausts, alloys etc) make your car more nickable = bigger risk = high premium
Engine changes making high BHP/Faster = bigger risk = high premium
and even
Strut braces (in there eyes) will make you 'try' and corner faster = bigger risk = high premium.

I quote

" It is your duty to disclose all information factually and completely. The company has the right not to meet its contractual liabilities under the policy, and can void the policy from its inception, if there has been non-disclosure of material facts. "

Imagine I smash it to bits somewhere, its in tatters........taken to a yard cant take exhaust off and an assesor points it out to the insurers........then Im in serious shit with a 18k liability..............140 is a bugger but in the grander scheme of things nothing, Ill drive off happy

Insurance contracts are what as known as contracts of the utmost good faith - you are under an absolute duty to inform the insurer of ANY factor which might affect their decision whether to offer cover, or the level of premium they charge.

If you fail to disclose the fact that you have an aftermarket modification, irrespective of whether it is performancing-enhancing or not, you expose yourself to the risk that the insurer will rely on your breach of contract to void the policy completely.

Do so at your own peril!

EDIT: Lurking Lawyer here. Forgot Jen was logged on still!

Material fact, non-disclosure - can't I escape the office?

Not really worth chancing for such an expensive piece of kit. My insurance is over
