Default accelarator cable is slack? shall i tighten it...

I ran my car yesterday (whilst cold may I add) and noticed the accellarator cable was slackened, is this meant to be on the s2000? or shall i tighten it? as long as im not interfering with the RPM setting at idle I cant see myself causing a problem.

Any comments appreciated
Thanks

Many have posted that the cable is frequently too loose. I tightened mine up a bit - not too much (it's difficult to tell how much pressure should be used to test the slack without experience). I noticed an improved throttle response, resuting in smoother 1st gear starts. Idle didn't seem affected. After about 20 miles, though, my CEL came on. After loosening the cable just a little, I still had the improved response, but no CEL.

So, I'd say go ahead and tighten it, just don't overdo it.....

there should be some slack in the cable to allow for movement in the engine on its mounts. The important thing is whether the throttle opens all the way when you press the accelerator to the floor. get someone to check that the throttle has moved to the limited of its travel when when you have the pedal pushed all the way down and adjust as necessary.

The car responds better (less jerky) if you go for zero slack.

The correct method is to back the front 12mm locknut off a load of turns.

Pull the sheath back until the cable is just tight.

Spin the rear nut by hand until it fouls the spigot that prevents it turning.

Let go the sheath, it will drop forwards by the depth of the spigot. This gives the necessary freeplay.

Tighten the locknut.

Fire up, check idle is normal & all is ok.

IIRC, the cable should have about a 1/4 inch slack (vertically from midpoint). I tightened mine up, and there was a slight improvement. Don't overtighten, or you'll affect idling, and/or stretch the cable.
