Default adjusting the tappets.

my old Civic CRX used to have adjustable tappets and when they were adjusted it did make a difference, can the S's be adjusted?. couldnt find anything of use in any book or on the search thing.

car goes in next week for the CV boots to be re greased and whilst it was in thought i might have the tappets adjusted. it makes them run a little quieter thats all i know.

I think its an optional something they do at around 54k service - IIRC they only do it if sounds unduly noisy and its not an easy thing to do properly.
I remember "Turtle" (aka Brian posting on this some time ago - if you do a search under his name, it should come up

Mine was in last week to have the tappets adjusted as i noticed
the engine was a little noisy, i thought it was the timing chain as
i was under the impression the tappets were self adjusting !.

Johnson Honda in Slough were correct and it now feels like
a new car.

My first experience with them.

IIRC the little tapping noises can also be valve clearances, which I think are checked on the major services

i had valve clearances checked at 36 month service...

they said they can usually tell a car has been ragged if the valve clearances need substantial adjustment and said they surprised how little mine needed...

Just so you know Mr Eagle, the tapping noise you hear are the "rockers/tappets" hitting down on the top of the valves. So valve clearance - tappet adjustment is the same thing, just said differently.

They are adjustable and when done correctly/precisely make the engine sound very sweet and quite ( this does take time) unfortunately most garages including Honda ones don
