Default Advice Request.......

Hi all,

Just looking for some input here, as I am unsure on next steps.

I have a 2000 reg, S2000 with HArdtop and Private "s2000" plate. 60k miles, but the engine is broken. It has been sitting for around 2 years (I know, bad!) and I am now looking to get rid.

There has been interest in taking the car as is, but so far the offers have been below the value of the plate, let alone a car.

I would be grateful for any advice, on the resale value of a S2000 with a busted engine, likely now to require new tyres and brakes?

Mechanically apart from the engine it has always been perfect.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
All depends what failed on the engine...and why said part failed.
Also, remember with private plates, they are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. You can have a very unique plate, but if people are only prepared to pay £50, then that is what its worth.

Bottom of the market is about the £4k mark if the car is clean and tidy. So I'd halve that personally as its circa £1500 for engine and box, often more. Then add labour time into it.

Have you thought about parting it out?

First thing to do is put that S200 0XX plate on retention, there was a tread recently that showed they go for quite a sum, as they are becoming scarce, you could then sell it via a broker. You might consider becoming a member on here then you could post up on the for sale thread or wants if you were to consider replacing the engine. As floppy said you could part it out yourself if you have the space and time. Otherwise its £1500/2000 for spares or repair WITHOUT the plate.

Just had a look on DVLA, they have no S200 O plates for sale some of the dealers have them with randon last two letters for £1200 to around £2000, one has S200 OCC for, wait for it just under £20,000.

So keep that plate!

Edit- good to see someone asking for advice not advise!

Thanks for the advice people, appreciate it.

Hadn't realised it was worth as much - had an offer for £500 for the car, including plate and hardtop.

The engine had an oil leak, and basically ground to a halt. There was little warning and much oil everywhere.

The engine starts, but it doesnt run well - top and bottom noises, and maybe 4 hp. I enquired about a rebuild but the chap was reluctant to take on due to the nature of the engine.

I havent thought about parts, really wanted to sell the car as is!

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.

I think I will sell the hardtop and plate seperate, then sell the engine as is, then the car as is.

I would imagine there is some value in the engine to be striped and rebuilt?
