Default AEM V2

Had one of these on my EP3.
Where does the filter sit too? Should you be worried about wet weather driving?

Cant seem to find a pic anywhere

I think mine is a AEM V2 clone, simply stunning these things the sound is in my view one of the best for a CAI ... only thing sounding better might be a full exhaust. Anyway to your question, the filter sits low down behind the drivers side grill, a small hole may have to be made in the plastic undertray down there, it goes through inside the wheel well cover and below into the front bumper. This is where the air is coldest, and in my view this is what makes these units superior to the ones high up in the engine bay. I have attached a pic for you to see, how it sits in my car, there is a thread somewhere showing how to fit one, or an internet site.

Regarding wet weather i have drove through all sorts with it and not worried, Dave (Blurter) had this for many years and he drove all over europe and many thousands of miles in all kinds of weathers with it and .. didn't worry. I guess there is a small risk ...

Bascially if you going through puddles that come upto half way up the wheels you will hydrolock.

And where i live that is a real possibility sometimes.

and that is the small risk that you may hydrolock if the *whole* filter is submerged.

Do you have to remove the front bumper to fit?

How easy is it to remove and clean the filter?

If you go onto funkypower.co.uk they sell the aem air valve bypass and also the injen hydroshield pre-filter, apparently with both of these fitted it will almost eliminate a hydrolock situation.

The hydroshield will still let water in easily, dont know about the valve thing.

I don't know either, just thought i'd put the idea out there.

Basically the air bypass valve goes in between the intake manifold and induction kit pipe, if the filter is submerged, the car will then take in air through the valve which is made of a thicker foam.

I think the hydroshield is to prevent spray or something.

i have a bypass valve but have never used it, still bnib, but i did not have a shield either, but ran my aem cai for about 2 1/2 years in all weathers, and never had a problem, never saw any water in the pipe...


i am sure hydro lock can happen, but i think sometimes its a horror story

the bypass valve will not allow water though the pipe however what it will do is take away the nice sound of the aem cai
