Thumbs up Airbox Cover

I drive with the lid off all the time. For those that don't know, it's only held on with 6 spring clips and is a doddle to take on and off. Removing it gives a great improvement in induction noise (ie. under acceleration) although some say it hurts the performance slightly. The extra noise in V-TEC is pretty as well ...

My view is that if it does affect the performance, it's pretty marginal, and anyway the noise makes you feel like you're going faster. I've convinced myself the colder Scottish air compensates although I might just concede the throttle response is a little slower.

My advice to all those that haven't tried it yet is ... GIVE IT A GO !!!

(It doesn't do any harm to the engine, and is easy to put back if you don't like the results)

Careful though. You'll get addicted to the sound and start wanting a big noisy chav exhaust.

Tried it briefly - couldn't stand the performance drop. HKS'ed instead.

I like the fact that even from low revs, it gives that noise that implies grunt. I suppose I'm forever comparing it to my old Chimaera and the plain fact is, the two are chalk and cheese.

However, I will refit it tomorrow and go for a decent spin to see if I really can notice any meaningful improvement in performance. I say meaningful, because my view is that if I do indeed lose 5bhp, that doesn't exactly make the S slow.

EDIT: I should have included an option in the poll for those with exhaust and induction mods ...

No never bothered cos I have a PRM. A car behind me at a meet had it off and it sounded nice but I noticed there was a performance drop in a comparison between his car and mine.

Can't remeber who it was though.

I removed mine, but if I went to Santa Pod or something I'd plonk it back on.
