Default AirBox mod........bit the bullet and........

So woke up Saturday morning and thought I'd do the airbox mod.....Took the cover off and proceeded to cut the partition down

Well made a right dogs dinner of it.......emergency surgery was required so off to B&Q to get a 'Dremmel'.....30 minutes later and I am back home tidying it all up.

I must say I think a Dremmel type tool is pretty much essential if it's going to look half decent....I could have done a better job but since it's hidden and intend to stick the PRM on eventually it's satisfactory

The Drive

Well the noise is much improved.....it really compliments the noise from the HKS and the car really sounds like it mean business!

The VTEC step is very noticeable and unless it's my imagination which I am pretty certain it isn't it revs more easily and throttle response is improved

If you can stomach taking a knife to the airbox I reckon this is well worth doing

There's a similar 'mod' which can be done on the CTR box, and having invested in a Dremmel a while back, I'm just looking for an excuse to use it! This could be it!

I'll be the first to admit I was highly sceptical of this mod.......but it does seem to work

I don't see why it shouldn't work. Removal of the partition just reduces turbulence in the chamber and gives a more direct airflow into the engine. For a 3 or 4 bhp gain it's got be worth doing..... and it's a nice day!.... Oooeer.

Well the engine certainly feels more responsive, it's difficult to get a neat finish to the edges but considering it's inside the airbox it's not too much of an issue

Easy fix for that Zero - get some rubber trim - then cut it to size and slot it on. That's what I did.

Did you seal the hole at the rear and remove the L shape air director on the lid?

removed the air director and sealed the hole........thinking the Spoon airfilter might be the next mod as the standard filter is grubby.......interestingly you can actually see where most of the air is being drawn in prior to the mod.......I'd say less than half the filter appears to be used to the optimum

I am either going to get the PRM or get the CAI attached directly to the standard airbox.....just not sure at the moment

That's exactly what I noticed when I did the mod - the paper filter was dirtier around the top. I'd definitely recommend the Spoon air filter or even the K&N or JR - all are better than stock.

PRM uses K&N I think.
