Default Alarms?

Hello all,

Due to take delivery of my imported Barlina black/ Red leather in just under 2 weeks (Hopefully - I don't think I can take any more delays!)

I've been searching the old stuff on alarms and need a bit of extra help.

The Clifford 600 seems to be mentioned a lot and appears to be the "Gold Standard" but at a price. Is this good value for money or are there similar alarms out there which are better value? I'm prepared to pay, within reason, for peace of mind.

Any advice on what ex-importers have fitted would be much appreciated. Any good places in the Manchester of Bath/ Bristol area with experience of S2Ks.

Pretty keen to get the remote boot control and engine start (for winter mornings). How much extra to these cost?

Cheers for the help.

I have a Clifford 600 in mine, although it has not seriously been called into action (only people getting too close to have a look). Clifford range is suppose to be the top alarm systems, although others use the toad setup with total peace of mind.

I think the Clifford 600 is still the highest in the range that is CAT1 approved, fitting this model to an S2000 seems very specialised even for an approved Clifford installer, if you take this option try and make sure the outlet has installed on an S2000 before. Known issues are the proximity detectors have to be very well placed and the one button control to close the window forces the window into a half closed half open position (although this is a niggle rather than a problem).

Willing to pay

Remote boot is standard (although I think you may be able to choose something else for the button instead).

The auto start is an add-on to the standard Clifford 600 package.

I went for the Clifford 300 - I looked through the feature list of the 600 and decided that I would not need the extra features. Got quoted

I might have got completely the wrong end of the stick but are you guys saying that with the Clifford alarm you can remotely start your car? If so that's cool wish I had a Clifford alarm now.

(Sorry could look really silly here!)

On the Clifford 600 (not sure if its a feature on the lower Clifford models) there is a option where you can start the engine via the keys. The doors remain locked and the car isn't driveable without the keys but its useful for warming the car up on cold mornings.

I am having a Sigma (Toade) alarm fitted today but keeping
the Honda immobiliser as I have been informed that it
is very difficult to get past due to it being wired through the management system. I asked 5 different companies about Clifford and each one said they were too temperamental and don't bother, 2 of them fitted for Maranello in Egham the Ferrari Dealer. They fit Sigma due to its reliability so I went for that with an M34 upgrade Cat2->Cat1. The only problem with that is you have to retain the Honda remote for the boot, or use the key.

I think a lot depends on how many extra's you want for your alarm, the more you put on the more unreliable they may become,

The engine start is an extra optional cost on top of the Clifford alarms, however I am not too sure if it is modular or can only be added to the top end range of alarms.

I presume it doesn't take the car out of gear before it starts it So unless your car is parked on the flat then I'd bear in mind that cars have been known to roll back when things have cooled down, even with the handbrake fully on.

Happened to an S2000 on this board and my brother-in-law's Jaguar S type which hit his house
