Default (Almost) unmarked camera van in Bracknell

If anyone reading this is in Bracknell and they're going to be driving past the John Nike leisure centre on the dual carridgeway - beware - there's a white camera van there hiding round a corner with a marked cop car snuggled up behind it. One the back of the van (in writing you have to be within 10m to read) it says "cameras in use" but by then it's too late.

It was there as I left work about 15 mins ago at least.

Should anyone be driving past it tonight with a radar detector, I'd be interested to know if they use radar or laser in these blacked out vans?

Anyone know?

John

Thanks for the info...I'll check it out.

What do the police say if you break down in front of their camera equipment??? With your hazards on waving at the on-soming traffic??

I've heard that a lot of these vans are to clamp down on road tax evaders. The camera is hooked up to a computer that reads your registration plate and verifies it on the DVLA database. If your car is on the road without tax, then a letter and nice fine will be on its way to you.

Don't quote me 100% on this, but there was a similar setup on the A505 near Royston in Herts a few months ago. 3 guys I work with say they were doing over 85 when they passed and have still not received any letters from the Herts constabulary.

It might be worth checking the side of the road for any little grey post's and in the road for 3 cables either enbedded or just layed across. It could be an Auto vision device so no radar / lazer emissions.

Leeg2002.
Whilst these vans do also catch out tax evaders. 90% of them have been deployed to catch speedsters. Worked on the No.plate recognition system used by all of UK police force. You can identify this type of system by a large reflective lens pointing toward traffic say 8x8"red or blue perspex cover. You will see these hanging over some of the bridges on M25. I bet that van is a revenue collecter. But time will tell.

Does anyone know whether they use radar or laser (I'm planning on getting a detector of some sort and it'd be interesting to know)?

It's definately a mobile unit with no roadside post or in-road strips.
