Default Which Alpine head unit?

I'm going to be upgrading the stock system and was originally going to buy the Alpine CDA-9855R but i've read a couple of posts and they don't rate them highly. I have also read the new range is due out soon although I can't find any release dates. I'd really like to get it upgraded ASAP because I have a set of component speakers on the way and would like to fit them together. However, if the new range is going to be a significant improvement and is going to launch very soon I may hold off a while.

What HU out of the current Alpine range would you recommend?

I have an Alpine 7893r mp3 head unit which I haven't got around to putting on ebay yet. Granted, it's a discontinued model (I think) but it probably has the majority of spec and functionality of the current range.

Drop me a PM if you're interested

(I've also got a 6 CD mp3 changer that goes with, for that matter. Can't remember the model number - CHA-634S rings a bell)

From experience I can tell you the Boston Acoustics arriving on your door step shortly are great with an Alpine 9850R plus you can hook up an Ipod to it.

I've just had that unit installed and I'm really pleased with it. Having said that, I really have nothing to compare it to other than the standard radio cassette that comes in the '99 JDM's!

I liked that I could change the backlight to red to match my exterior though!
