Where is the alternator, what does it look like and what does it do?

Sorry for being girlie about this and please dont be too hard on me, but I've bitten the bullet, asked the question!

And pictures would be very helpful (of the alternator obviously!)

In the main part of the forum...a little further down your screen

I'm sure one of the friendly mods will move it for you.

It's the silver thing that the blue arrow in the above pic points to.

It's powered by a belt that winds its merry way around all those pulleys and it makes electricity.

When it stops working properly funny things happen. Eventually your car will have a flat battery (If you don't notice weird electrical things going on before that).

(Please don't think I'm being patronising but I don't know exactly what you know already).

I'm guessing someone has told you that you need a new one.

In which case I'd thoroughly recommend getting the battery properly tested first. It's rarely the battery IME, and the alternator is a bit of a faff to change.

Mine tried to fall off, but it couldn't.

I think you'd notice the weird things - the EPS shuts doem & the steering's a tad heavy without it.

Sometimes they get weak, but usually fail because of the bridge rectifier on the back of it. They can be overhauled/reconditioned.

They're made by Denso.

Are you bored yet?
