Default Another AP1 Hardtop thread...

Hi all,

I've had a search around but can't get a definite answer to this question.

I have a 00 AP1 and want to purchase a hardtop for the winter.

Do I need a fitting kit full stop? Or will it fit as standard but without the rear de-frost.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi - you'll need a fitting kit mate. You'll notice if you peer through the brushes to the right of your shoulder that there is no hole for the hard top to lock in to. The fitting kit contains parts that you will need to swap out.

Yep, sorry. Budget another £200 - £300 for that.

To be honest, both of the S2000's I have had have come with hard tops. All they have ever done is take up space in friend's / loved one's garages.

Unless you like the look, they aren't worth it IMO.

They're worth it if you drive the car all year around and don't garage it - stops the wear to the softop fabric in the winter months. I also use mine if i know I'm going to be parking somewhere less than salubrious.

Just jumping in on this thread, I've quite recently bought a hardtop, fitting kit for my s2k. Can I ask those owning the s2k gt. version that come with hard top as standard, do you find that the roof can sometimes (especially on bumpy roads) be squeaky? I fitted the kit myself without too much hassle, but wonder perhaps with a little readjustment if I can minimalise the annoying squeaks and rattles? Or is this a standard issue?
Thank you in anticipation!

Standard issue for most of them I'm afraid. Another reason why I never use mine.
There are some rattles (hardtop strikers) that can be sorted out though.

I think it will stop me from selling it in the winter.

I don't have a garage to keep it in and don't like the idea of covering it after every use.

Might keep my roof going for a little longer too.

Do you find the road noise similar with the hard-top on? I get alot of wind/road noise with my roof up from about 70mph onwards.

If your hard top isn't aligned properly you'll still suffer road noise.

In all honesty though, at 260 fitted for a new soft top from that chap in Wales .... and on the basis they last a good few years I think i'd be inclined to sell the hardtop and put the money in a 'Jack Smith Trimmers' fund instead

Cheers mate, thats put my mind at rest, it's a shame tho as in my opinion is really tops the car off nicely, and with the English weather not exactly being on our side I've had it on more frequently than not. Lol what's a rattle or two anyway
