Another coilpack
It seems another one of mine has failed.
Starting from cold today it was running on three cylinders, but then that went away but I had exactly the same symptoms as before: misfire low down in the revs but running fine above 3,500 rpm.
I've just been out in the garage letting it run on three cylinders and unplugging each in turn, and found the one that made no difference. Then I swapped that for another cylinder just to prove that it was indeed the coil.
So, is there something that causes coils to fail? Or is it that my now 11 year old original coils have reached the end of their life and I can expect the other two to go sooner or later? I.e. should I go and buy another three instead of one?

That must have been the stutter you had on the last lap of the ring.

Wiped off the oil, ran okay after that.Which wasn't the one that failed this time. Although (racing driver mode), this would explain why I wasn't able to reach the same top speed as everybody else on the straight after Eau Rouge. It was a misfire, clearly.
