Hi,

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks, with a view to getting an S2000, when my current car goes back
at the end of its finance deal in April next year. I had a test drive in an S2000 on Saturday, and all I can is wow ! after I got out of the car at the end of the drive I had a stupid grin on my face

My current car is an MGF which I have been really pleased with and has been real fun to drive. I'd be interested in hearing from any of you on this board that may have moved from MGF to S2000, and any of your experiences.

Has anyone used Brakelake Honda in St. Albans as a dealer - are they any good ? any horror (or good)stories that can be repeated here ?

I noticed the ICE wasn't up to much and also the horn sounded a bit weedy. I'm still undecided, as I tested an MG TF160 on the same day and its also very good in its own way, although I think the S2000 is the favourite at the moment.

thanks

simon

Hi Simon,

welcome to the board.

Still undecided about the S? Take the plunge - you WON'T be disappointed (take it from me)

What colour S2000 would you go for?
Euro import or UK dealer supplied?

As for the ICE and horn - there have been plenty of threads on this site about upgrading the horn and stereo system - yes they are both a bit lame - but fortunately, that doesn't affect how the car drives :-)

MGF to S2000.

Happy Christmas. I`ve driven a few MGFs and they pale in comparison. They are in my eyes a pretty weak vehicle alround and very poorly engineered.

Hi Simon. A mate of mine has just traded in his MGF for an S2000 - I don't think he could take me badgering him anymore to change it! He has had it a week now and I've had several messages from him thanking me for introducing him to the car! From this I assume that his comparison is well in favour of the S. I think the biggest gripe he had about the MGF was reliability. I recall going to rescue him several times after something else had packed up on the car.

For me there is absolutely no comparison. From looks, performance, running costs, driveability, and sheer grin factor - the S wins hands down every time.

DO IT!!!!!! You won't regret it.

And as for Braylake in St. Albans, I don't know much about them. I got my car from Braylake, Hemel Hempstead and also had some work done there. I definitely wouldn't recommend them, I was not impressed with the work carried out! I do know that Crown Honda, Bushey gets very good reports.

Hmmm - colour is a good question, I am pretty certain I want the red interior and at the moment a black exterior but I think my
other half prefers silverstone - decisions, decisions...... and it'll
be UK dealer supplied.

The MGF has been enoumous fun for the last 2.5 years, and has never had anything go wrong.

and thanks to all for the warm welcome here.

Welcome to the board, Simon!

I came to the S from the MX5, which isn't all THAT dis-similar to the MGF in terms of performance. It's simply not in the same league as the S though. As others before me have said, buy the S and you will not regret it for a single moment.

My car is essentially a weekend toy, since I commute by train in the week. As a result, in my last year of owning my MX5, it only did around 5,000 miles. Incontrast, in 4 months of owing my S, it has already done 8,000 miles - no other reason than the sheer fun of driving it.

You'll find the flimsiest pretext to take the car out, and that 5 minute trip to the shop for some milk will end up taking you 3 hours and 150 miles - I don't think I'm alone in having experience that phenomenon

You got that right! One warm day this last summer, I left the office saying, "I'm just popping out to buy some sandwiches". My PA said, "Ooh, are you going to Sainsbury's?" I said, "No. I'm going to Safeways........ in Welshpool!" (which is 20 miles away) And I did too!

Hi Simon

One other point (which rarely surfaces) is depreciation relating to any finance deal you set up for your new S2000. Both myself and one other new owner here that I know of, use Honda's "Aspirations" PCP Plan. We found that if you can put down around

Simon

Welcome to the board.

You know you want to do it
Had mine just over a month now and love every minute. This is my first real sports car and i love it. Going from a Cav gsi2000 to a fiesta and then to the S, it's the best by far.

Test drove alot of cars before taking the plunge ( elise, boxster S and even the swear word TT (flame me now to get it over and done with). The S had the fun factor and all the others seemed to be lacking in some thing??

As for the Dealers i have not had to use them yet, but i agree with LB, braylake are not too helpfull when wanting to buy a car. All they could manage was a free set of mats and stone guard. They are good at registering the import's and i have 3 honda contacts now. One at Bushey (crown ) service manager, one at St Alban braylake, and one at Hendon. So hopefully one should be good

P.S a short trip to blockbusters last night turned into a 30 mile round trip through hertfordshire.

popped out yesterday afternoon for 5 minutes intending to top up with some Optimax - one moment of vtec lead to another and an hour and a half later made it home again - I find the whole S2000 experience totally and utterly addictive and I can't think of a car I'd rather have for the money
