Default Another HKS thread

Finally got round to fitting my HKS Hi Power Silent exhaust today.

Thanks to an old thread by AB who had included detailed instructions and also Ben (B3N) whom I bought it off, that enabled me (a not very mechanical person) to give exchanging the exhaust a go.

The hardest part for me was getting the nuts off that attach the exhaust to the cat. Even though my car isn't a daily driver the bolts were stuck solid. I even duck oiled the nuts last night. I managed to get one nut off but the other two were seriously jammed. I was starting to damage the nut so had to give up. The only place open locally was a kwik fit, who despite telling me last week that they wouldn't fit an exhaust that isn't supplied by them, were more than happy to help me. They put the car on the ramps, heated up the nuts and them struggled but managed to get them off, and they didn't charge me for their help They still refused to help me put it on though.

Anyway once back home the rest was easy. The new exhuast looks very

I have put the nuts on but need to go and buy a new set (something I had forgotten to buy before starting on the exhaust).

My first impressions are that it sounds very nice. A nice burble at idle. A beautiful roar once in VTEC but as quiet as stock at other speeds. I can't wait for the next London Tunnel run The only problem so far is the drone. It's only at around 3,000 revs, but I hope as with others it will quieten down with a bit more driving (even though the exhaust has already done about 2,000 miles).

I forgot to take pics but will take some later this week

ps do I have to buy an exhaust gasket or can I just use the firegum/high temp silicone sealant to bond the exhaust to the cat?

Nice one. When bolts are seized, it's best not to apply constant but to try to snap them free. A rubber mallet comes in handy.

Where's the pics?

Decat sorts the drone right out. Get one on there!

First things first..get a decat. The HKS sounds crap IMO without, and it will stop the droning.

decat? you d1rty bastads! your carbon footprint will be reduced by that..
oh.. hang on.

but all that CO you'll be pumping out..
bad people.

with a decat you would have to crawl under there before each MOT and replace the cat.

plus it's illegal and if you got caught in a roadside VOSA check you'd get in trouble..

probably.

Sounds like the perfect exhaust for me, nice and quiet at cruise.

How does it compare to the stock system in weight?

Think Jo Brand and Kate Moss.

Am I missing something here?
