Surely it can't be a surprise if you are making regular checks on your car and having an annual service?
I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of people (here an in general) have no idea what a drop link is or how to check them. Most people don't own ramps so won't be able to throughly check brake lines for corrosion.

I don't think it's people posting out of "surprise", more out of pride about how fantastic these cars really are.
