Default Another wheel refurb thread

I'm considering getting my wheels refurbed, I thought I knew what I wanted till, I went for a quote. I've a 56 plate car with OEM 17in diamond cut wheels, I was going to go for a proper refurb with silver sparkle paint and the wheels relathed so bringing them back to new.
When I went for the quote they said that was no problem but just getting the wheels done full sparkle silver would not only be cheaper but they would last longer looking as new, so i thought why not. Then I read the thread on will the S ever become a classic that got me thinking would it be better to go for recut or full paint.
They quoted me £306.72 (£76.68 per wheel) for paint & cut or £258.72 (£64.68 per wheel) both inc VAT. Now these are both good prices and I've seen examples of their work and it's most impressive.
I've got myself in a corner now I don't know what to go for.

These are the guys doing the work- http://thepolishedwheelcompany.com/index.html

Hi Crispy, what I'm after is do I stay stock with the wheels to keep it classic or make them more durable?

I'd keep them original if I could afford to. However, enough of whom I enquired about cutting my MY02 16"s warned me that I'd be re-doing them twice as often - followed by an offer of a cheaper alternative - for me to accept that the price I'd have to afford would be double, through-life, if chose that route.

FWIW though, what you've been quoted for the cut etc. is getting on for half of what I've been quoted - is that rubber on or off? With or without a balance?

It is a good price, rubber off, ballance included and the ballance machine is a good one (computer/laser). The manager showed me round the kit, chemical and bead cleaning, alloy weld to build up damage, laser lathe, coating booth and cooker all looked great plus they have a display of samples and the web site has many testimonials.

I had the ones done to OEM on my old MY04 with the diamond cut face and within 6 months one of them had started to corrode again. If you don't have corrosion on them then you may be ok but I got told that once the air and corrosion gets into them then they will corrode from under the laquer regardless, a bit like tin worm in the bodywork of a car.

Pristine Alloys in MK did mine and the job was very good with sparkle silver as well but they also recommended to paint the whole lot. The price you have been quoted sounds good too, think mine were about £340ish all in.

I think the price is good as they are new to the area (they have a place further up country) and they are trying to build up buisiness.

The diamond cut is not as fragile as others might have you believe if you keep on top of maintenance. I am a lazy git at the best of times and mine are still great looking.

I think the diamond cut is awesome and would never paint it for the sake of supposed longevity. I have been toying with the idea of a dark matte bronze and diamond cut face or matte black with a diamond cut face (AMG style) but have yet to decide for sure. Just when I think I want to go for it the stock silver/cut wins me above again

You wouldn't know where by any chance?

Would be interested to see a before/after, whichever way you choose, if you'd be kind enough

Near Taunton, somerset so not too far from you. I will certainly be posting before and after pics when I get it done, the web site in my OP has a gallery and I've seen their "demo examples" and they do look impressive and there is a tab linking to a map of the somerset branch.

And thanks for the input guys I've been persuaded, the diamond cut stays!
